Pick any two:
-Awesome
-Reliable
-Cheap

...the Wrangler picked "awesome" twice.
Jeeps were never very reliable, but Wranglers were cool and affordable.

Jeep Wranglers were a common sight on college campus parking lots.

Sadly that's not the case any longer. Well, unless it is a a 20-year old beater...or a rich kid.

Never as cool as they are today though. I would argue that the if the Wrangler was cool and affordable before the JL generation, then it seems the JL traded its one "affordable" for an additional "cool".

Ironically, what has made Wrangler more "cool" was the addition of 4 doors.

Not that a 4-door is cooler than a 2-door; simply that the 4-door made it possible for many households to stop dreaming of owning a "Jeep", and enabled them to justify getting one.

The addition of the 4-door Wrangler singlehandedly explains sales exploding from, 50,000 units/year 15 years ago to 200,000+ units today.

Definitely, but it goes even further than that. Before the JL came along, Stock JKs didn't get a second look. Sure if you had a 4" lift with 35+ tires and LEDs all over the place then you got lots of attention. But with the JL even a stock one draws crowds. I can't believe the comments, thumbs up, and conversations my stock JLU 80th has generated. My SRT Challenger doesn't get as much attention.

That is not just a Wrangler thing, though. People go nuts over G-Wagons, Raptors, Gladiators, TRD Pros, ZR2s, Land Rovers, Land Cruisers and yes Wranglers.

Anything with 4WD, big tires and some sort of lift gets snatched up.

TFL has a video out: the now-discontinued 2020 Raptors are getting listed for twice their MSRP...for a vehicle that is going to be obsolete in 2 months when the new one comes out.

Dude... what is your post? I mean, by your own list I would have picked "awesome" and "reliable" lol From what I gather, your logic is that reliable vehicles are always boring and that unreliable vehicles are...uh...exciting? You for real? I mean, I love when I have the top off on my jeep and I'm cruising in the summer, or when I'm offroading and the jeep feels right at home. Yea, that's awesome. But the majority of my time in my vehicle is just driving time. I don't have a grin from ear to ear when I'm on the highway going to a doctor's appointment just because I'm in a jeep. People go overboard on that trope.

And the timer has already started running on Stellantis and its jeep brand refresh. The reviews coming out for the Bronco Sport are excellent across the board, and I can see those sales easily eating Cherokee/Compass/Renegade sales. And then we have a year until we start seeing actual Broncos on the road, and that'll be a whole other reality check for this brand.

Jeep has a great image, and that's cool. I have an '18 JLU sitting in my driveway, so obviously there's stuff I like. But change is coming, I think, and hopefully it will make this brand hold itself to better standards: fit and finish, reliability, dealership experience, more competitive pricing. I don't know why any jeep fan would be against any of that.

Not what I said at all. The cliche is "pick two". So if it's awesome, and reliable, it ain't cheap. If it's cheap, and awesome, it ain't reliable...and so on. The JL didn't even get TWO of those unfortunately.

If you got a bad Jeep it would give you zero consolation that your neighbor got a good one.

Spending 50 large ones on a Jeep is not like playing the lotto: “You got a dud, pity. Try again.”

That’s not how this works.
Yet you got a great one but continually chant how terrible Jeep is.

Since I am looking to get my Jeep at the end of May I am kinda hoping the New Bronco helps with getting discounts/incentives for Jeep at that time. But I also know it just got delayed so I guess I have to play wait and see.

Check out the ordering/purchasing thread. Depending on where you live/how far you are willing to travel there are dealers offering up to 8% off of invoice price.

I agree. Bronco Sport launched yesterday and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Most reviewers were even surprised how fun and capable it is off-road.

I think Bronco Sport is going to pose a bigger threat to Wrangler sales than we think. Price for Bronco Sport starts at $28,000; a well-equipped Badlands costs $34,000. It looks rugged, is an excellent daily driver, efficient, and, by all accounts, it is fun and capable off-road. That’s all most people need; including a growing number of Wrangler buyers.

At the very least it is going to eat the lunch of Renegade, Compass and, possibly, Cherokee. Long-term, it may also cannibalize into sales of the larger Bronco.

Thanks for that. Yeah not sure the East Coast will work out for me, especially since its my first Wrangler it will most likely be a lease just to gauge if its something I want. A test run if you will. I also think interstate leases can be a pain sometimes? Not totally sure on that though.

But I am always lurking in there for sure!

It pains me to say it, but I totally agree. I had a 2020 JL with a backup sensor issue nobody could fix and FCA wanted no part of it although they put me on all kinds of support programs which did nothing and looking back was just lip service. I now have a 2021 JL. Had it for 6 weeks and had the backup camera crap out and fix itself, and had the Auto stop/start warning light already. Shouldn't do that with a 40,000+ vehicle with 1200 miles on it.

I've had 2 Tundras. Most I ever did to them was change the oil and filters and tires. But I was ready for a smaller vehicle and the Jeeps looked fun. I may keep this a year and go get a Tacoma or maybe an FJ if they come back out. I'm just disappointed. I had a 2 month ordeal with my first Jeep, now I hope this one behaves for a while.

The other thing is I don't know who here had had Toyotas but if your service at your dealer is anything like ours, its exemplary.
My Toyota dealer drove me to replacing my 2000 Tundra with a Jeep. So far, so good.

my 2019 JLUR was repurchased by FCA. Transmission died at 8k miles, and recurring issues with axle lockers starting around 4k miles.

2020 JLR... axle lockers failed at 2k miles. A few weeks ago (4500 miles) 4wd system failure, ABS failure, traction control failure, sway bar disconnect failure, start stop failure. I've tried taking it to the dealer twice, but the next morning it's all fine. I get 2 hours from home and it fails again. I can't get it fixed if they cannot reproduce the issues.

I guess I'm unlucky. My JK had issues too but not this bad. I do go wheeling every weekend, but that's not an excuse for all these issues.
