During COVID my Jeep Wave oil changes were going to expire. Since the dealerships were all closed I called Jeep to see what they could do. They extended my oil changes given the situation. I asked them at that time if they could send me an email confirming this along with any paperwork that I would need to get the old changed. They told me that it was all in the system and that all I had to do was to go to any dealership and they would be able to find them by the VIN number. I dont drive my jeep much so I just finally hit the mileage where I should get the oil changed. I went into the dealership and was told that the oil changes they gave me had now expired. Since I was not given any paperwork or told about any expiration I did not know that it was going to expire. If I did then I would have gone and get the oil changed before they expired. Jeep never sent me an email or any communication indicating they were going to expire. I called Jeep Cares (jeep does not care) and walked them through this and asked that they replace the oil changes since I had no idea they were going to expire. They were NOT willing to do anything and the only thing they suggested was that I buy more oil changes. I wanted to let everyone know that Jeep does not care. Very disappointed that they did not take ownership of the fact that they never send me any paperwork or told me that there was an expiration.

Not wanting to be confrontational but ..... I believe you were dealt with properly by "Jeep Cares" and you should take "ownership" in regard to this issue.

Your error ..... You failed to be sure you received written confirmation of what you were told initially. You should have asked to speak to a supervisor if the rep you spoke to initially did not want to give you written/email confirmation of the --> exception she/he made for you.

My guess is, you did not ask for the original reps name either.. You have no trail... no paperwork or otherwise..

You'll learn to... in the future, to cover all bases. so to speak. Especially now a days, when a Customer Service person tells you something, to ask for written confirmation... IF, they do not oblige, then do not take what they told you to the bank... Ask to speak to a Supervisor if that is what it takes..

For the record, my comment here, again... is not meant to be confrontational / provocative.

Hopefully your thread, my reply and other replies to your post will b helpful to other say young guys and gals here that don't know how to .....

@gando, at a minimum you should have your oil changed once per year. It says it in the owners manual, I never hit the OLM 0% before a year is up. That is why you get 3 changes in 3 years. If you do develop engine problems during the warranty period, they could possibly disclaim it because you didn't maintain your vehicle according to the schedule.

Like Rhinebeck01 said, make sure to get everything in writing from customer service. However, I'm not sure I'm going to use my last Jeep Wave oil change after the fiasco with my last one. They broke my hood safety latch, and gave me an extra quart (which I didn't realize until the oil darkened up a bit after 2K mi). Sigh.

Just look at it as a blessing. Now you can learn to change your own oil. You will not over fill, leave the filter, or filler cap loose. Or, forget to put oil in the engine, or damage something on your Jeep.
Oh, get a Fumoto valve, and oil changes will be an easy no brainer.

Covid started March 2020. By 2021 the retail world was mostly opened up. It’s now 2 years later.

You can possibly call Jeep Cares and see if they will give you back your free oil changes but….. if you can afford a Wrangler you can afford the $50 or so to get an oil change

I'm not sure what your relationship is with the dealership that sold you the JL ... but, if you went in to that selling dealership (no, not a phone call to them) and asked to speak with the dealerships General Manager and the Service Manager and asked them politely and calmly, to please do you a solid and give your JL a complimentary, oil change.. as you feel Jeep Cares / Stellantis did not do the right thing.

You may just find that one of the Manager's may authorize one oil change as a good will thing to you their valued customer.... a valued customer that they want as a return customer in regard to your $ for Service and Sales.

Remember, if you don't ask you don't get. Go ask.... no harm asking.

--> Also .... ALWAYS always,,,, when you call Jeep Cares to ask that a case be opened and that Case # be given to you...

The rep is supposed to document all in that case file... This case documentation, should not be accepted as your confirmation of what you were told or promised..... but a Case# is important to have, especially is chitt happens.

Actually I think is started in 2019. (Coronavirus 2019=Covid 19) l’m with you on the fact that it has been a long time since then. For someone to think that because of Covid that those oil changes would be extended indefinitely is a little ridiculous. This sucks but they are running a business and you should have followed up.

seems way too long to wait for an oil change. Honestly if your dealers are anything like the 2 in my area I tried, they did you a favor. Only ever used 2 of the free oil changes we got on our Jeeps before realizing how bad they sucked and didn't care. More oil spilled around the engine bay than what made it in the engine and oily handprints everywhere. :(

Thanks, I appreciate everyones comments. Just to set the record straight... I did ask for documentation when I was given the replacement oil changes and was told that I would not receive anything in writing. They said it was in their system. I did get the reps name and the case number. I was not told about expiration. I never considered that oil changes would expire. Why would oil changes expire since I was told that they gave them to me to use as I wanted. When I called back and gave the reps name and the case number a few days ago they told me there was nothing they could do. Also, I did speak with my dealer and ask about if I should get the oil changed. I was told that if I was not driving the care it was not nessasary. Lastly an oil change is not $50. I was quoted $175 for the oil change for synthetic oil.

Thanks

Gando.

. . . realizing each day–
$175 is quite high. Our local dealership charges less than $125 with synthetic and a 5 tire rotation—

The virus was discovered in 2019 in China. The shutdowns in the US didn't start until March/April 2020.

Mobil 1 Synthetic at Walmart is around 30 bucks for 5 qts. Filter is just under 10. 20 minutes of your time. Peace of mind it was done right with the right oil and correct amount=priceless. So you are looking at under 50 bucks. The JL, at least the 3.6, is the easiest vehicle I've changed oil in and many would agree. Just save the receipts and write down the mileage/date. Car fax even let's you enter your maintenance in, so a future buyer can see the maintenance history.

I agree, they don’t really.

If you want to come to Northern Colorado, I’ll change your oil for parts cost only. We’ll go to Costco and get the Kirkland full synthetic.

Sounds like you need to be changing your oil far more often. A DIY oil change can be done for under $30.
