I'm still new enough to the Jeep world that I like having the ability to start the Jeep via my phone. ;) What I've found is that, for me, the UConnect app seems to work better. I have yet to have the Jeep app start the vehicle remotely. UConnect works every time. What's the difference between the two? They both have the same info. One just seems to work better.

Inquiring minds wanna know.

The UConnect app, as you've found, is designed for people with an active Guardian subscription to remote start the vehicle, etc.

The Jeep app is an all encompassing app for all Jeep owners (not just Wranglers) to obtain/maintain information about their vehicles. I don't think it is designed to work with the remote/Guardian features even if they appear for your specific vehicle.

Unsurprisingly, Jeep's software is ... confusingly bad.

Uconnect seems to only provide information for people who have the Sirius Guardian subscription active. Whereas the Jeep app provides many of the same functions but also has other information (like service, recalls, and roadside assistance) even if you don't have the Guardian subscription active. I have both apps installed, but generally have better luck with Uconnect.

Presumably both apps exist because Uconnect is the in-car software across the FCA lineup, not just Jeeps, so they want a generic app anyone can use. They just happened to also integrate it into the existing Jeep app too.

After my 1-year trial expires, I won't be renewing it. I can't imagine spending $10-20/mo on this garbage.
