Both are terrible engines. Pick your poison.

My only complaint about the 2.0 is it sounds like an Electrolux when accelerating. Mechanically, mine’s been bulletproof.

2021 with 2.0. Rear main leak when I bought with 30,006 miles on it. Fixed under warranty before I drove it off the lot. Agree with others. Seem to be more significant failed failures with the v6. That's why I chose the 4 banger. No regerts. Lol. The solutions to the pingy little singer engine in order of labor and cost...
1) turn the volume up on the Rise Against
2) take the top off. Wind noise will drowned out the sewing machine
3) more aggressive mud tires

Problem solved!

Please let me know any issues that you have experienced with the 2.0L Turbo or have read about that may be chronic with it. I am considering a new Wrangler and don’t know if I truly want this powertrain.
75K miles on my 2.0 2021 JL. Drives great and no engine issues other than annoying noisy start. Keep an eye on coolant levels and give it an occasional Italian tune. Lots of torque. Great on and off road. Squirts around like crazy.

None... but it pays well.
I know this is not related to the turbo 4, but over 80% of the Pentastar engine issues are from 1st Gen. 1st Gen Pentastar engines ran up to 2020 on some models.

Note, the copied list below from an informative site... which most sites make the Pentastar engine all inclusive. Funny thing only the pre JL Wrangler is included in the list. Yes, there are issues with both turbo and 2nd Gen Pentastars.

The following Dodge, Jeep, and Chrysler vehicles are equipped with the 3.6L Pentastar engine:
  • 2011-2014 Dodge Avenger
  • 2011-2015 Ram Cargo Van
  • 2011-2016 Chrysler Town & Country
  • 2011-2017 Chrysler 200
  • 2011-2019 Dodge Journey
  • 2011-2020 Dodge Grand Caravan
  • 2011-present Chrysler 300
  • 2011-present Dodge Challenger
  • 2011-present Dodge Charger
  • 2011-present Dodge Durango
  • 2011-present Jeep Grand Cherokee
  • 2012-2018 Jeep Wrangler
  • 2012-present Ram 1500
  • 2013-present Ram ProMaster
  • 2016-present Chrysler Pacifica
  • 2020-present Chrysler Voyager

114600 miles on my 2018 2.0 (unlimited Rubicon if it matters). I have had to replace the oil separator and the radiator (plastic ends gave way) but that is not a 2.0 specific issue. I am diligent with regular maintenance but not nearly as extreme as others (never analyzed the oil).

I love turbos but I really do wish this motor sounded better and that is really my only complaint.

For anyone complaining about the noisy engine, put AFE muffler on it! I did that just as a drove it off the lot. Few things, inline 4 sounds terrible on anything but the deep sound of AFE masks the noise and makes it much more tolerable. V6 has much better sound but I cant get over how many issues people had with this engine. Its all over the internet, people I know had issues. I'm pissed Jeep didn't address this better. A V6 with supercharger would have been my first choice.

I wonder how that engine sounds in the Alfa Romeo Giulia, and/or the Stelvio. Both vehicles also use the GME.

Not everything. There's any number of inline 4s on motorcycles that sing a sweet, sweet song.

Yes, it does seem more difficult to capture the same music when that engine config is scaled up for automotive use.

I mean the actual engine, not the exhaust note. turbo rattles and the fan noise

40k+ miles on my ‘21 JLUR, several long trips including 8k mile Arctic adventure. Love this rig. Sounds a bit like my diesel tractor on startup, but after a minute or so quiets down. Other than that, no complaints at all. Running with 3 other JLURs, either I have the heaviest passing foot ever, or my rig just shines in making a quick pass on tight roads. Honestly, my driving smile doesn’t come from loud growling/droning exhaust. Way better mileage in every situation so far, a comparative quiet over my buddies various Jeeps let’s me listen to music, or wind with window down, without the engine/exhaust background noise to contend with. Love it, and as commented earlier: No Ragrets!

36,000 miles on mine. Zero issues, pretty good mileage, and great throttle response. I drove both before I chose the turbo, but I'm partial to forced induction engines.

Counterpoint: I just had the 3.6L engine in my Gladiator replaced due to a blown head gasket at 100k miles.

I owned a 2.0T four years in a Cherokee Trailhawk. It was a no brainer in preference for my Wrangler.

45K miles on my wife's 2022 Sahara with the 2.0T. Coming up on 20K miles in my 2023 Sport S with the 2.0T as well. While I agree that on cold starts in the winter there is initially a fair amount of knocking, it goes away pretty quickly and idles smooth thereafter.

It boggles my mind that people haven't paid attention to that this turbo engine gets more torque at lower RPM than the V6. Yeah, it's a no-brainer for me. 2.0L all the way.
