Looking for some advice/help.

Had the B9A recall done back in April. On my way from CA to Boise, the lights flickered on, lost engine power and the dash said, "Service charging system." I was able to drive the rest of the way on e-save mode.

Today, it stopped charging halfway (13 miles) and when I went to start the car, engine light came on. AC doesn't work, low power, and producing code p0b24-00.

I am past warranty at 37k miles and frustrated throughout this process (wishing I had never gone in for the recall).

1) Anyone have any suggestions of contacts to Stellantis for rental car coverage during this time?
2) Anyone have any suggestions as to what may be this issue? Looks like from others in the thread, the recall either killed my battery or something to do with BECM.

TIA!

Well the good news is your powertrain warranty is 5 years 60k miles and the better news is your hybrid battery warranty is 10yr/100k miles so likely you'll be fine but if any of this is related to the recall anyway it wouldn't even be a warranty issue.

p0b24-00 requires the HV battery to be replaced. It should be under the warranty unless you have an obscene amount of miles. The recall did its job and properly detected a failing battery.

Thanks all! Now for the fight to get a rental as I am passed the jeep wave time period at 37k miles.

Not to be overly technical on a Monday- you're the trained one- but didn't the recall cause issues that verified a failing battery rather than detect one?

More of the second than the first. The recall added logic to the BPCM to detect a failing battery. If it detects it's failing it'll throw the voltage variation DTC.

Part of the recall was running a "test" to confirm it's a failed battery before returning it to the customer to prevent the inconvenience of having to bring the vehicle back. In actuality the BPCM runs the integrity check every time the vehicle sits for more than 4 hours or so. If you need a battery pack it'll throw the DTC in a day or two. The wi-tech procedure to force this integrity check has proven to be very sensitive as to what allows it to properly complete, resulting in some of the frankly insane turn around time.

If you get this DTC after having the recall done it's a good thing, it means the update properly detected a failing battery.

Thanks so much for your knowledge.

Just so I have some ammo because I've now been to the dealer 3x for this recall and I'm afraid they're just going to "software update" and send it back to me.

They are looking at it tomorrow.

Any chance they come back with something other than it needs a new battery? Anything I can say to insist on a new battery?

So frustrating as the Jeep ran perfectly up until the first visit in April.

The battery replacement isn't up to the dealer. STAR themselves approves and orders it. If you have the DTC you should get battery

My '21 with 13k miles did the exact same thing. Nothing came up after the recall software download, but about a month later it was dead. It's been at the dealership since May 20th waiting for a new battery. I'm being told they are backordered and there's nothing JeepCares can do when that is the case. It took Stellantis about two weeks to approve the replacement after I dropped it off. Luckily my dealer gave me a loaner. Good luck!

Well that’s news to me re backordered battery. I’m sorry we’re in this boat!

A new battery was authorized by STAR via my dealer on 7/1 and they said it’s enroute as of 7/2 - delivery expected on 7/16. FCA called me this morning saying they are expediting delivery (which I am unsure how you would do if it was already enroute?). All leads me to believe someone is lying.

Good news is I’m in a rental and will fight for full reimbursement and more on the legal side if I have to.

Keep me posted!

Will do! My JeepCares rep is who informed me of the backorder situation. My dealer told me mine was authorized and ordered on 5/30 but they still haven't received it. They seem to be clueless.

I have a 2021 with 20K miles. So, recently my check engine light came on and when they pulled the code it showed a stored code of P0BBD-00. We took it directly to the dealership and had them also pull the code so that it was in my paperwork prior to turning off the vehicle. I have been having ongoing issues with the dealership about the battery not fully charging, decline in battery distance, the battery indicator showing up to a 10% increase in battery after turning the car off and then back on again, and a hair trigger switch to ICE mode. All of which are new issues, and have been documented with the dealership prior to this code being pulled. They are now telling me that they cannot open a STAR case because it needs to be an active code (not stored code). Are they blowing smoke up my.... ???

Nope, had the same issue with mine and took multiple visits and about 6 months or so of dealing with it before the battery completely shit the bed and codes were active when I limped it in to the dealership. My service advisor was great and tried everything she could but the STAR case got denied with the code just being stored. She was so happy when it was finally active and I think it was only about 3 weeks from that point until the new battery arrived and got installed, they gave me a loaner while it was waiting. Like a whole new vehicle after the battery swap and I'm regularly getting 24-25 miles per charge again.

They are misinformed. If the code is present at all they can make the case and get it ordered. Being active or stored does not matter.

Thanks so much for the quick feedback. At this point, I am really concerned about bringing it home and charging it, much less just having it in the garage. I will talk with my advisor again, but I understand it is not her fault, and that STAR is the issue.
