I used the Odyssey web site to order a new battery for my 2023 JL Rubicon and I ordered the one that the site said matches my vehicle. I installed it yesterday and it's smaller than the stock battery -- shorter in length. Was this the wrong battery? It seemed to be ok but I'm wondering if it being smaller will cause problems with it moving around in the designated space?

@chevymitchell

You purchased the wrong battery. That old MOPAR part #05033394AB in your picture is an H7 94R and you purchased a Group 48 H6.

I believe you have the Tow package / Aux switches so you would for sure want an H7.

Yes, you will get by with the H6 but you will have less CCA to work with. AND you would be best to have a cleat in the battery box to secure the shorter H6.

A JL or JT with tow package leaves the factory with an H7-AGM Group Size 94R Main battery.

A JL or JT without the tow package leaves the factory with a Group 48 H6 Main battery, which is a tad shorter in length then the H7-AGM Group Size 94R.

I don't understand why anyone orders batteries online. If you need to return it, or have warranty issues it becomes a big hassle. Buy locally, so that these things are far more easy to handle quickly and easily.

The JLU/JL battery tray is designed to hold either a group 48 (H6) or a group 94R (H7) battery size. There is a small removable plastic tab available that snaps in to fit the smaller group 48 battery in the tray.

My particular JLU originally came with a group 48, however I removed the plastic tab and only run 94R now. Some come with the group 94R from the factory if equipped with a tow package etc.

@The Last Cowboy

Agreed... I will not even buy an Odyssey battery at a local store let alone online...

Very good battery but.. if the Odyssey battery develops issues, you can play real hell getting a warranty replacement for it, in a timely fashion, especially now a days..

This / the Odyssey warranty replacement procedure/ hurdles that you face can be a major issue, especially if you are traveling with the JL and the Odyssey battery has issues..

Thanks for the information all! I tried to search the forums here before ordering but I didn't come across that thread.

Cheers

Maybe I missed it. Does the JLU-X come equipped with only one AGM battery @mountainsjl ?

It's not that I take issue with anything said above, but if you're running a dual AGM battery JL and haven't already bypassed the Aux battery and wish to keep it, the time to replace that Aux battery is the same time as you decide to replace your main one.

You have a H7, they recommended a H6. I suggest that you stay with the H7.

@Old Dogger

Maybe I'm misinterpreting your comment...... ??

He mistakenly purchased an Odyssey, Group 48 H6.

His JL had a Mopar 5033394AB 94R H7 in it.. See pic of the old battery he pulled...

He should have purchased another H7.

NOT true with Summit Racing.... I had a warranty return..... They sent me a replacement Odessey 94R battery out right away.

Yes it does have an aux battery. I was replacing the main battery because when I use my winch a battery warning light illuminates on the dash so I was hoping this would resolve that. I will look into also replacing the aux battery...

Edit: Initially I was using my winch the check engine light came on with B21E3. I cleared that and since any time I use the winch I see that battery warning light illuminate.

@JEEP4U

And how many days total did you have to wait to get that new battery in your hands?

My guess is at least 5 days. Not everyone can do without their vehicle for 5 or more days...
