Guys, quick question. Why not dilute the coolant instead of flushing? Like pump out whatever is in the reservoir every 5,000 miles and never do a flush. What's wrong with that?

It increased, it’s at the max line now, look at your first post pic, it’s at the minimum line, why are you worrying over this, I don’t understand…

Because that would only replace a small percentage of the total volume of coolant, which means there will be diminishing returns (i.e. less and less "old" coolant removed) each time you do this.

I recently flushed my own coolant. I removed the lower radiator hose to drain as much coolant as possible, then refilled the reservoir with distilled water. I had to do this about 5-6 times until the coolant was coming out clear to be sure as much of the old coolant was removed as possible.

Edit: also, despite what some others as said, the proper way to measure coolant is when the engine is COLD. As long as the coolant is between Min and Max when the engine is COLD, you are good on coolant. The Min/Max lines are irrelevant if the engine is hot (though if it is below the Min line, I would make sure to check it again when the engine is cold just to be safe).

It is really not a concern, because the OAT coolant is good for 10 years or 150,000 miles whichever comes first. Most owners don’t keep their wranglers that long.

You know that I'm a super rookie. If I give myself enough time and focus, can I do the coolant flush myself?

You can, but I don't recommend it. I ended up spending way more time flushing the coolant than it was worth. To do it right, you gotta drain the coolant, refill with distilled water, drive it around for a bit, wait for it to cool off, then repeat 4-5 times until the coolant comes out clear.

Then, you drain it one more time, pour in 1 gallon of Mopar coolant concentrate, NOT 50/50 because there is already some water in the system. After the 1 gallon of concentrate, you get pretty close to a 50/50 ratio of coolant/water, but not exactly. Then, you use a coolant tester and add distilled water or 50/50 as needed to reach the right mixture for the system.

The dealer has a coolant flush machine, so they don't have to do all of the nonsense I mentioned above. I think it costs about an hour of labor, compared to the several hours it will take for you to do it yourself.

How many miles are on the vehicle?

Just a heads up. Your first picture you posted, is where my coolant sits all the time. If I ever top it off, like you did, within a few weeks it will return to the level of your first picture. I am at 100,000 miles and that is where it likes to sit.

Why do you want to do a coolant flush? You were a little low, you added a little, now youre good. Move on.
