What do those things have anything to do with knowing the difference between a want and a need? lol
My reply was to @Heimkehr; based on his reaction, he gets what I’m saying. I don’t want to get into the weeds and off-track in this thread. If you want my explanation, please DM me. Thanks!

I saw that video. The guy states how awful the Jeep Wrangler is and then buys a BMW, isn't that the pot calling the kettle black. 10 out of 12 the Wrangler is more reliable than the BMW.

I’m not going to watch a 15 minute unknown YT video.

But:
-Jeeps are one of the vehicles where it is fairly easy to get +/-10% off sticker, so MSRP is not what you pay
-Jeep is probably the easiest mainstream (or maybe any) manufacturer to place an order with for a vehicle so you can get exactly what you want and not pay for what you don’t want
-A lot of the very high sticker vehicles have high $$& options on them (V8, big wheels/tires, exotic one touch roof, etc etc). I don’t like the price creep either but building up a top level Jeep with crazy options and then whining about the price is dumb
But:
- Other manufacturers are also offering 10%+ off sticker
- Wranglers weren't competitive with their competition where they were priced in 2020, and the price increases they have received are well beyond those of their competitors

It's all in the price. The Jeep juggernaut is falling apart because FCA got too greedy with prices.

I’ll be honest, I lease Jeeps, not buy, so that’s what I know. The only close competitor to Wrangler is Bronco, and whenever I try to build a Bronco up to compete with a Wrangler the Bronco is significantly more expensive, and then leases way worse. Depending on what you want, maybe a Bronco is cheaper, but I found a lot of “if you want this you must also get that and that” that makes the Bronco get expensive fast.

The price will be what the market will bear. No different than theme parks like Disney hiking prices or charging for what use to be free. This won’t stop until we the people stop buying it.

When I was working out what to order for our jeep, I had a giant spread sheet with showing trims, engines, "must haves" and "might be nice" items and also compared it to the bronco for benchmarking and aside from some stripped down black diamond trim bronco that really was a less desirable option anyway, the jeep came out ahead on price as equipped. We knew we were buying the jeep, it was just good to look at.

I agree with others in here, you can have a lot of control over what you spend on a jeep by special ordering.

I think some people have a tendency to "click all the boxes" because they see a nice to have option and tell themselves it's a MUST HAVE.

The other day my local Jeep dealer had about 86 Wranglers on the lot, of which 63 are the 4xe. They also had some killer deals on a few aftermarket upgraded older model year vehicles with $25k off MSRP. Their lot is overflowing and not one customer in sight.

Talking to the service manager, it is clear that Jeep has missed the mark by selling high priced version of vehicles that few people want. He also smiled and said the 4xe gives him job security between recalls and other known Wrangler issues. There were also a bunch of California Highway Patrol Chargers in the service area for recall work.

Reminds me of how Harley Davidson overproduced bikes a few years ago, and you could find all sorts of great bikes on craigslist for smoking deals. Perhaps that’s where we’re headed with the Wrangler. The lots where I live always have a surprising amount of new and used Wranglers. To me, Wranglers are the Harley Davidson of the automotive world.

One of the failure points mentioned is less Jeeps selling today than in 2018. Is this a lack of Jeep interest or could it maybe be:

- Sales were higher than normal in 2018 with the introduction of a new generation Wrangler.
- Most people wanting to buy a new Wrangler or Gladiator already bought one in 2018-2022 making less of a demand today.
- Economy today vs economy in 2018. I would guess that consumer spending in almost every product is less today than it was in 2018.

Due to the pernicious effects of inflation over the past three years, consumer spending in most segments is actually (and involuntarily) up. We're having to pay more for the same quantities of the same things. That's the paradox.

There is no doubt the Wrangler is way overpriced, but that doesn't stop buyers. People continuously bitch about paint bubbles and aux batteries, yet, they bought the ride.

I'm not talking about "close competition". I'm talking about the vehicles that the vast majority of the car buying public cross-shop with Wranglers. To them, the Wrangler is a mid-size SUV. Members here drone on about "there's nothing as capable blah blah blah" but the 30 and 40-something moms that are now lusting over these things could not care less. They're looking at 4Runners, Highlanders, Pilots, Traverses, Broncos, and Wranglers. For the guys it's Wrangler vs Bronco, Tremor/Raptor, Rebel/TRX, Trail Boss/ZR2, and TRD Pro. The only vehicle in either of those lists that doesn't offer a ton more value for the price than the Wrangler is the Bronco.
