Has anyone shopped insurance rates between the two to see if there really is any difference? I think that would be interesting.

Nah, I didn't check before getting a MT. That tire cover is hilarious! Love it.

You can figure this out easily. Get VIN numbers on two Jeeps that are equal in all ways except the transmission. Then simply get quotes.

There is only one reason, I can think of, that they would have different premiums and that is the replacement cost on those components. I’m going to assume that a manual is cheaper than the 8sp Auto. In that case I think you could potentially see a slight difference in premium.

There has always been an assertion that driving a manual tranny causes the driver to be less distracted. I haven’t seen any actual studies to back this up but if those studies exist, then I would speculate that it is possible an insurance company could see that as a risk reduction and thusly reduce premiums. However, I stress, that is purely speculation on my part.

Yeah, my assumption is that manuals get stolen far less often. However, manuals are also considered to be more prone to roll away or be in an accident. So I just thought it would be interesting to see if that's a criteria that insurance companies actually look at.

I might poke around and just see what I find....

Let us know. I don't think it's going to be a large sum of money but I am curious.

When I talked with USAA last week they didn't ask anything near transmission type. They were looking for "day time running lamps" and one other item, that I cannot recall immediately. She recommended getting VINs, but I told her that I was just looking to be in the parking lot of the ball park, not necessarily IN it.

I found it interesting that it costs a hair more to insure a Toyota Tundra than a 2018 JL.

No difference in premium on my 2018 JLUR manual and 2018 JLUS Automatic with ALFA.

The other item was probably security system.

Does it really make a difference? When I got insurance, I didn’t shop around looking for rates, but the insurance company didn’t even ask what kind of transmission.

I really don't think it was and I can't find my notes immediately.

I do remember I was asked if the Tundra would have the bed cargo cover on it.

All I can remember her saying was sky-on instead of Scion...

They don't really have to ask if you've given them a VIN. That said, the more I think about it, the more I don't think they really care.
