My JL is still stock for now, with only 1000 miles on it, but planning a big spend.

This got me thinking...If you drop $40-100K on a new JL, then modify it with $5-20K, you are supposed to inform your insurance company. They will charge you extra on the agreed increased parts/labor value you want covered, but also so they can evaluate the new increased risk to them of your mods causing an accident or attracting attention for a vehicle theft. In the end, you are going to pay more if you want everything covered and don't want to worry they will refuse to pay out one day because you failed to infomr them.

Keeping the modified Jeep on your existing policy with your other cars will drive up the cost of the whole policy. Maybe there is savings to be had if you separate out the jeep to its own policy with a different company. Anyone try this?

Allstate Insurance since 1980 for multiple vehicles and recently changed to AAA. Nether asked about mods or even to see the vehicles. Maybe I’m foolish but I’m not worried about adding a lift kit etc and suddenly being liable in an accident where the other driver is at fault. If my aftermarket lights get stolen, I’m not filing a claim anyway. Last two insurance companies do everything on line and have you send pics of the damage. No questions regarding vehicle modifications ever arose.

Allstate here - I just called my agent and had them include aftermarket coverage for a certain amount. They do $5k increments. They did not ask what was done. This reminds me though I need to get it upped again.

I have Allstate. I asked my agent if I needed extra insurance for my jeep because of my mods, and they said it was up to me. I pay $5.00 extra every month to cover my $5,000 in mods. But they never asked about my lift, or for pictures of my jeep, they just sent a list with the different pricing options I could choose.

AAA Texas says they will not insure my mods. Currently shopping for different insurance.

Progressive accepted my agreed value of market value + mods. My agreed stated values is $68K. Unlike Hagerty, it doesn't mean they will payout $68K, but it will account for my mods when they evaluate. I also need to keep receitps of all mods and labor.
