Had the JLUR 3 months now waiting for the lift kit I want before everything else goes on. Did a couple of searches looking for the method of installing the CB cable from the tire carrier to the drivers seat. Not the most mechanically inclined but I've always had a 2 door with no back seat.....easy stuff.
CoolTech has a nice kit with the bracket and all......anyone have a step by step method of getting the cable from the tailgate to the front seat, maybe even some pictures. Getting across the back seat looks a little tedious.......
Just want to try and keep this a clean job if possible....also a recommendation on a good reliable mobile mount would be nice. I have a Uniden (a cheap one) that works great....but looking. Anyone have any comments on the Cobra 75 WX ST that CoolTech also sells....a hand held unit.
A link to a previous thread would be great......Thanks

You'll need to remove the inside tail gate trim but that is easy enough. Bring the coax in through the OEM grommet. Zip tie the coax with the other wires going into the tailgate and make sure you have enough stress relief with the gate all the open, etc. Re-install the tail gate trim piece. Now, take the coax and lay it down all the way up to the passenger's footwell. Starting in the back, use a plastic pry tool (or 2) and work the coax under the plastic trim to hide it. Using this method (and some patience) you can really minimize the number of panels that you have to partially remove. Honestly, it is not that big of a deal.

Thanks for your reply......'under the plastic trim'....at what level are you speaking, the top under the window, or the bottom between the fender well and floor. It would help me and others if you posted a picture or two on install.......
I will order the CB and ant kit soon.....H

Yes, lay the coax along the floor - all the way to the front and then from the back just work your way forward hiding the coax. Most trim pieces will stay in place as the diameter of the coax is so small it can be coaxed (pun intended) under the plastic relatively easily. I will try to get some pics - but maybe not until next weekend as we have NASA races this weekend.

Just FYI - we work with two different distributors to purchase the Cobra 75 WX ST radios. Both are telling us that Cobra is out of these in the US with a next availability of ~mid June. (Cobra expects them in two weeks and takes another 10 days or so to get them out to their distributors.) At the moment, maybe the normal re-sellers still have them, but we're out and just picked up the Uniden CXM560 as a substitution - and we'll likely continue to offer this as an alternative when Cobra 75 WX ST supplies are "restored".

Is there any noticeable quality difference between the two radios?

Are people installing the box behind the glove box in the JL?

Dumb question so no hating. When big groups go out for example at EJS in Moab are folks all on CB's? I ask because when just a few of us do road trip/drives etc we just use Motorola 2 way handheld radios.
Not a dumb question! Yes, in and around Moab and on the trails CB is king.

Almost all Jeep clubs and Jeep Jamborees still rely on the CB. Jamborees will put different trails on different channels.

The Uniden has a larger box, but also comes with a microphone extension cord, which is great. I mounted mine under the passenger seat. Mine is a CMX760, which is basically the same with a couple additional features. I think it performs very well, and I like that the handset is lighter and smaller than the Cobra.

The difference seems to be the squelch and volume are "Stepped" buttons on the Uniden vs. a infinite dial on the Cobra. The Uniden does have a bigger hidden box. I think after that its a toss up, I would be happy with either. CoolTech has the Cobra in a package deal, so it made my decision for me. :)

I think I may mount it under the seat too, I am for now trying to keep the dash clean, and don't need to keep the CB connected all the time, so I think getting to the plug under the seat will be easier then behind the glove box. My old TJ I did mount the plug on the lower foot-well side of the center console, may consider doing that though. We'll see, need parts in hand to make the final decision.
