New to jeeps and I am still under 200 miles on the vehicle. Just read this regarding the "Off-Road +" button:

"When shifting into 4-Hi under Off-Road Plus mode, you’ll see more responsive acceleration and a change in the way the vehicle performs in softer terrain..."

If just pressing this button in 4hi gives "more responsive acceleration", I assume that the sensitivity of the pedal position sensor is intentionally nerfed in an attempt to claim better mpg and that pressing this button changes the throttle response based on the pedal position. The pedal response does seem sluggish to me, anyone know of a way to get this "more responsive acceleration" during normal driving? This thing desperately needs another 100lbft below 1500rpm, I know the pedal won't give that to me, but more responsiveness isn't going to hurt.

Pedal Commander definitely fixes the sluggish throttle response. I did the typical guy thing when I installed mine. Sport + mode topped out. Too dangerous for traffic. Settles on Sport at level 3. No regrets

OR+ increases throttle response and raises shift points as claimed. A Tazer no. A Banks Pedal Monster simply plugs into the OBD2 and doesn’t enhance reverse as opposed to the others. The perpetual throttle controller argument aside I like it (typically run Sport mode level 2) Banks isn’t cheap but is top quality. If you spring for an I-dash (about the same price as the PM) you can adjust the level at will with a button push, no searching your phone to adjust it.
A NoLimitz JL($275) disables “Torque Management” but pricey for the lack of other features useful for a V6 (does disable the speed limiter).

@Flip just knows how to post gifs, buttons are beyond him. 😉

I went with Soler Throttle Controller. I turned it up till it would blip the throttle when hitting a bump, then turned it down a little. Yes, it helps - throttle follows the right foot.

Is there a certain throttle controller that is very user friendly, plug & play?

Banks is top quality, simply plugs into the OBD2- doesn’t scab power from the throttle creating issues, doesn’t enhance in reverse like others. don’t know about all, but the Banks video with him comparing it to a PC has been posted. Sure, promoting his product but nevertheless factual. … this tech idjit that is displeased having to search and scan his phone, especially when driving, sprung for the i-dash, no phone needed after setup. 👍

Never used my Offroad+ button personally...
Not sure what circumstances would call for it...
Maybe I'm missing a golden ticket...
FWIW- I noticed a big improvement in throttle response getting rid of the massive muffler and going to a smaller dual outlet one...

Suggestions noted, thanks all. Also very interested in that muffler, sounds like a good deal to get improved throttle response without even messing with the programming yet. Thoughts on a complete muffler delete? Anticipated db?

Yes, is the short answer. I have been using a HIKE IT-X9 Premium Vehicle Specific Pedal Controller with 4 Driving Modes. for about 6 years.

It installs in about 5 minutes. I love how adjustable it is. Click mode one time and it automatically switches to High performance mode.

If it is turned all the way up in High performance mode, the Jeep is hard to drive in a parking lot as It will surge so hard you could easily smack another car trying to park. It is hard to back up with out spinning the tires. Just as it is hard to leave a light while turning and not spin my 37s. on pavement. Changes the whole driving experience for my Jeep.

I always run it in the eco 4x4 mode off road. I tune a bunch of the throttle response out of the Jeep so that it requires a lot of throttle input to spin the tires. It makes the Jeep way easier to wheel and not accidentally spin the tires over difficult obstacle.

Each mode has a 0-9 adjustment.

This is one of the mods that I have done to my Jeep that I would absolutely buy again.

I've the Hike-It X9 in my JLU. I can recommend it without reservation as perhaps the easiest way for the vehicle owner to test the functioning of a throttle controller without excessive complexity or expense.

The sole user interface is the pictured control panel, which uses straightforward analog-style buttons (and not too many of them) to pivot between the different levels of sensitivity, aka driving modes. The device doesn't require the use of a phone app, Bluetooth or particularly the OBD-II port.

Like most throttle controllers, the X9 simply adjusts the voltage signal betwixt the accelerator and the PCM to provide the desired throttle response. Each mode's sensitivity can be adjusted between 0 and 9, and the device can also be turned off to restore factory throttle programming as the owner may decide.

Subjectively, this is a convenience item, but also one that I've come to really like, in terms of its practical effect in a variety of driving scenarios.
