I didn't even know there wasn't a CD player. I guess I expected there was a slot and my brain never registered that there wasn't because I wasn't looking for it.
My 2016 JKU Sahara had a music CDs AND movie CDs! I loved that when camping outside the grid!

If you guys are going this far, you need to find a trunk mount CD changer for the real thowback feel.

I didn't want to mess with physical media while driving nor did I want to listen to commercials. I just wanted to plug and play. Since my Wrangler, and two Ram trucks prior to the JL, had USB I ripped all my CDs and stored them on my computer.

Then, I formatted the USB drive to FAT32 and loaded individual songs, not album folders, to the USB drive. Currently that USB has 900+ song files on it, in lossless FLAC file format, and it will play for days without me having to touch any buttons, swap media or diddle dink around while driving.

I don't like storing music files on my phone as 1) it degrades the phone's performance, and, 2) the digital to analog converter in the phones suck. If you use a headphone out from the phone that's just one more damn cord to mess with in the cabin.

I let the OEM head unit (8.4N) decode the digital files. It does a fine job.

So if anyone wants some specifics on how to do this, just PM me. I'll be glad to help.

Spotted at EJS: they are still making jeeps with 8-track players!

A 4xe rubi with a part time T-case? Was that a previous concept?

funny story.......40 years ago, a bunch of us were partying in a county park area. I was playing a cassette on my car stereo that I had recorded. While recording the cassette, the record skipped a few times. One of the girls that was with us at the party was pretty ditzy, and commented when the song got to that point and started "skipping"......I told her to go fix the turn-table in my car...........she believed me. fun times.....I remember some of them.

Between my wife's collection and my collection we have about 1000 CDs. They are all in plastic tubs stored in my shed out back. I have every intention of ripping my favorites but really, who has time for that? I use Windows Media Player to rip them and add them to my Android phone when I do get around to it. Also, I have bought CDs from Amazon and downloaded the digital copy so I would'nt have to rip it. But.... I listen to a lot of bands like Pink Floyd and their songs run together in way that a ripped MP3 played on a phone can't duplicate. Dark Side of the Moon especially. I wind up just blue toothing to the Jeep and playing my entire collection of 3000 ripped songs set on random. I also have my turn table from 1999 hooked up to a Samsung sound bar in my man cave. But I found that side one of any album finishes too quickly now and getting up to turn it over is a pain in the a$$. ;) So I just go to the Sirius app and let it play.

I use Apple Music. For $10 per month I can add any albums I want, and even download them to my phone for offline use.

Another benefit to Apple Music is the steering wheel Voice button activates siri and you can identify a song, album, or Artist you want it to play.

Mike, you'll have to rip the CD's to iTunes then upload to the iPhone. Mini USB is way easier.

G.
I don't disagree, when limiting oneself to simply in-vehicle listening. What the DVD->iPhone method has going for it is the ability roam freely away from a USB port- like taking an evening walk with Airpods in place.
