The Jeep and dual sport crowds tend to overlap, so wanted to share my excitement with my Jeep family here.

After a 6 month long research journey, I purchased my first motorcycle in 12 years today. A KLR650S.

Interesting note on purchasing the KLR: it wasn't my first choice. It wasn't even my 3rd. The KLR was 4th down on my list (out of 13 potential bikes... I like research and lists), and the S model wasn't even on the list. But after finding a leftover 2023 for 30% off MSRP at a local dealership, I couldn't say no to that. I in fact hounded them about it for 3 weeks until the person who already had a deposit on it ran out of time.

So even though it wasn't my first choice, it was ultimately, my choice. And I have a feeling I'm going to have an absolute blast this summer.

Between a Jeep and a dual sport... RIP my wallet.

Cheers all!

Congrats. Just sold my BMW GSA. The KLR is a beast offroad and easy to maintain. Enjoy.

The DR was my first choice actually. In fact had a different dealer tracking one down for me. But they hadn't made contact in a week when this opportunity finally came up, so cancelled that arrangement... for now. A DR is still in my future.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
My g/f asked me yesterday if I were to buy a new bike what would it be. With very little hesitation I said DR650. She laughed and said you just sold your DR. I know that they make other bikes, but they don't really need to. The DR650 could be the only bike.

When I sold my DR650, I had at least four people trying to "bid" on it. I told each of them it was listed for the price it's listed for and the first person had asked me to wait for them to get there from out of state. If they showed up on the day they said, it's sold. If they don't, I'll call the next person "in line", but I'm not selling it to the highest bidder because my price is fair, and it isn't fair to sell it out from under someone. I guess I'm not the only one that thinks the DR650 is the only bike, haha.

I do appreciate the Kawasaki DR650, but not as much as the Suzuki version (that's a joke by the way).

Really though, congrats on the KLR. It was my second pick, but I can certainly understand why it'd be someone's first pick.

I bought my second (and current) DR650 precisely because I regretted selling my first one. There's no greater vote of confidence in something than doing what I did. :)

As for why I bought the Ural, well...that was a fever dream that I still can't fully explain.

But of course you do know that if you wanted a real bike.... it would be a Harley Davidson.

When you just have to have a bike that makes more decibels than horsepower...Nothing beats a Harley-Davidson.

Nah, I'm just kidding...

You know why Harley riders never wave back though? They don't want to drop their tools.

I have an '07 KLR that I got for $3,000 wit 12k miles. I then proceeded to add almost $5,000 worth of upgrades ?

That said, I doubt there are many KLR's out there with a suspension as dialed as mine.

I have to respectfully disagree! A KLR is NOT a 2 wheel Jeep...more like a 2 wheel Suburban. Way too big to use in gnarly "Jeep" terrain. THIS is a 2 wheel Jeep:
Jeep Wrangler JL I mean it's basically a 2 wheeled Jeep... Trials bikes

Back in my younger days I always had more than one bike...600cc+ for good dirt roads and highways, and something like a Honda XR250 for the gnarly trails.

This is my second one. This is a R1250GS, last one was an R1200GS. Had a Road Glide in between, scratched that itch and it’s not coming back. Don’t buy into the real bike hype. All bikes are cool, for the most part.

More like a rock buggy, specifically built for KOH, than a Jeep.
