I have a modern Samsung phone running Android.

My Jeep runs android auto.
I use it for maps, phone calls and TXT messages.

On my desktop PC I have Apple iTunes. I have bought songs.
I used "copy and paste" to copy songs to my phone.
If I try to play the songs through Android auto, Google does not allow it. I refuse to pay a subscription to "Youtube Music" to play my songs.

So, instead, I copy and paste the songs to a USB stick and then play my songs through Jeep Uconnect.

When I am walking, I play the songs on my phone via a third party app.
I'm able to upload my music to Youtube Music and play it on Android auto. I don't have any kind of subscription. When they first released Youtube Music, there was a bug that though AA required the subscription. It has since been fixed. Not a big fan of Youtube Music, but I'm too lazy to install a third party app and redo my playlists.

Just rib'n ya. But if for nothing else but security, you should get a modern phone. Updates stopped 5 years ago for the J3.

That said, I disabled AA. It was driving me nuts.

Good luck. ?

Working in the cybersecurity field, just saying, there are other reasons to keep up to date with phones. The most secure phone is usually the newest phone...

I love it!

I remember those brick phones.

My first phone was a flip phone with a little bitty camera (with like a 4 pixel screen that you really couldn't do anything with).

Got a new phone today - a Samsung Galaxy A14 5G. Tomorrow I'll start messing with it and the Jeep to see if I can get them to talk.

Wish this boomer good luck!

So to try and close the loop here (for those of you worried about me):

I got the new phone paired up with the Jeep. The quick guide made it sound like A-B-C-Done. Really it was more like A-B-C-D-E-F-G-Done. They skipped some steps I guess they just assumed you would know to do without them having to tell you. But I figured it out after a couple missteps. When I was at the dealer picking up the Jeep he kindly paired my phone for me as we were going through things. I watched him do it, but I figured at the time "Ok - that's done - let's move on".

But it works! Pandora works, GAIA works; the apps on my phone now show up on the screen (when I'm connected of course). Ima happy boy. In the picture you can see the Android thingy along the bottom of the Jeep's screen.

Now to get a phone mount. I'm thinking about one of those Bulletpoint mounts.

So, I ordered this grab handle ball-mount from Bulletpoint:

Jeep Wrangler JL + Gladiator Grab Bar Mounting Point - Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions

And this phone holder and arm that attaches to the grab handle ball-mount:

Carbon Fiber + Kevlar Arm and Universal Phone Mount Holder Combo - Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions (for some reason this isn't wanting to come up as a link)

With the military discount (20% - thank-you) and free shipping, it came to $66.39.

If I don't like it mounted on the grab handle, I'll order the dash tray mount and reuse the phone holder and arm:

2018+ Jeep Wrangler JL/JLU + 2020+ Jeep Gladiator Single Ball Passenge - Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions

My new phone's case may be a little too thick for the phone holder - I might need a newer thinner one (the one I got is thicker front-to-back and more HD than your normal phone case - but they're not expensive - like $10.00 on Amazon).

I'll post pictures and my thoughts about it once I get it installed.

In case you've been waiting impatiently...

The Bulletpoint phone mount came today. Only took a few minutes to install. My thoughts:

Seems nice. Not cheap for what you get, but if it works long-term that's fine (pay once - cry once). Holds my phone nicely.

I had to really crank down on the turn thingies to get it to hold tight (used pliers). They sell a little tool for this purpose ($2.49) - they should include it with every purchase like this (but even then, I still might have needed pliers to really tighten it):

F-it! Tightening Tool by Bulletpoint Mounting Solutions

Mine mounts on a ball on the grab handle that replaces an allen-head bolt. Now think "Righty-tighty; Lefty-loosie". Look at where it attaches to the grab handle (ball). If the weight of the mount it too heavy, it might pull it down and loosen the ball mount that's screwed in. I might have to put some locktite on the threads of the ball mount if it does loosen.

Now I just need to get a one-foot long USB-C to USB-C cord to attach the phone to the dash plug-in. Another thing to add to my Amazon list.

Have you ever seen a dinosaur type? No. Their arms are too short. You're not a dinosaur.
