I picked up my new 2023 JLU Willys 2.0T XR last week. I'm loving it. I'm starting to figure out all the dash and U-connect stuff and getting it set up how I want it. It isn't too difficult (although getting the dash set up and making changes is still a little challenging to get it on the first try).

However, I wanted to connect my Android phone to the U-Connect so I could listen to Pandora (70's soft rock) and see what other apps I could get to pull up from my phone to the Jeep's screen (like GAIA). Per the Jeep's instructions, I downloaded Android Auto on my phone, but my phone says "Can't run Android Auto on this phone". The instructions that came with the Jeep said I needed version 6.0 at least, and my phone is a version 7.0. You'd think it would work.

So I went to the T-Mobile store and spoke with a very nice lady. I guess my phone is just too old. It has the latest updates, so that isn't the issue. I think they're up to version 13.0 now.

I guess I'm a dinosaur (I'm only 62), and my phone (Samsung Galaxy J3 Prime) is an antique. Will be getting a new phone later this week.

Planned obsolescence. Bloody annoying.

Nice Jeep, btw.

Swappa.com is great for phone models a year or two old. Get a Pixel if you stick with Android. Every other phone is bloated with garbage.

Android Auto used to work with v5.0+, but was recently changed to only work with v8.0 and higher.

You'd think there'd be a way to install a slightly older version of the AA app, but being a Google app, I'm not sure if that's actually possible since the sneaky f'ers sabotage shit without your permission.

Nice Jeep, congrats! ?

My pet peeve, is every time Verizon does a "critical update" it critically erases all the phones out of the vehicle memory. Our Jeep, Charger and Subaru all dumped bluetooth pairing after the recent update. The Charger, still had my phone in memory, but wouldn't connect to it anymore. There was a security patch that prevented it. I had to re-pair all the cars. The Subaru acted like nothing was programmed, and the Jeep had my phone but not my wife's phone (same model). But it wouldn't connect no matter what I did. Had to erase all the vehicles and start over.

Haven't driven the Promaster since the update, I'll probably have to do that one also.

My phone is running Android 12, but I have no idea what build Verizon is on.

Android 7?! Definitely time for an upgrade; any phone on that is at least 7 years old.

Get any Android from the last couple years, yes even a "cheap" one that's $200-300, and it'll work great with Android Auto on your head unit. If you're familiar with Samsungs, give the new "Galaxy A" series a shot; it'll be at least somewhat familiar -- and a whole lot nicer than the Galaxy J3.
