This is also true, but I'm just highly skeptical that any auto maker outside of the hypercar segment would make a replacement engine that wasn't both comparable in performance and significantly cheaper to produce in some way. Jeep/Stellantis loves pinching pennies like that and I'd be surprised if they did anything other than something aimed at lowering their costs and/or increasing their profits.

Fuel economy aside, I think there's a reason why most of us would still prefer the large v8 over a blown i6 given similar performance numbers. Big chunk of iron vs some extra plumbing.

True on the V8. I had the 392 and loved it. But the BMW is going to be my fast car and the jeep will stay my slow off-road vehicle. I just think the in-line six would be a nice balance between the two, but I’m fine with an improved four-cylinder.

Stellantis likely also has to manage current and anticipated CAFE requirements, with respect to the I6's efficiency when compared to the 392. The latter is simple and thirsty, whereas the technological complexity of the former can likely be manipulated in a manner that provides beneficial outcomes where gov't. regulation is concerned.

Yeah I believe 100% the 392 will be phased out within 3 years but probably 2 years.

With that said, an improved four-cylinder with a mild hybrid set up is something I could see them doing… even though it’s not something I would want. I’m good with just an improved four-cylinder with no additional batteries.

As for "improved", it does seem that FCA left a bit on the table, in terms of what's available to be extracted from the Hurricane four while still retaining its reliability. We shall see. ?

I've the non-eTorque 2.0T in my JLU, and it's an absolute hoot. I'd be very curious to see what's done with it, and when.

Yeah I know there’s still a lot to be done with 4 cylinders. Just looking at the new C 63S of course I wouldn’t get it because it doesn’t have a V-8 but the power the four-cylinder by itself without the battery puts out is pretty amazing.

I agonized for weeks between a 392 vs V6 Pentastar etorque vs waiting on a possible high horsepower I6 Hurricane.

Ultimately went with the Pentastar its such a great engine given its age/all the bugs have been fixed and has all the power I will need on 37s.

I actually just got home from the Southeastern Adventure Expo in Central FL today - saw all kinds of Jeep setups of engines/models/age etc - ultimately nobody cares its all personal preference but the cool thing about the Jeep Community is that once you have one its great everywhere - they accept you as part of the tribe no matter what specs you have.

I held off on replacing my totaled Jeep for a bit to give my wife some peace of mind. Replaced it with an M8 Competition, which now she has new concerns. Go figure

I probably won’t get a new Jeep until they release the I-6, which could very well be another 2 years. I am hoping it’s not a hybrid, but I’m not holding my breath.

From the recent rubicon anniversary editions, what do you all think pricing will start? I know it’s completely speculative, just trying to gauge where I might start before upgrades.

I don’t think they’re bringing the i6 to the wrangler this generation. My gut feeling anyway. Next gen would be 2028.

Yep— Wrangler is likely low in priority. Behind GW, W, GC, new Charger/Chal, PU’s, 300 replacement. Production increases will take time. Plus will it fit in a JL ?

Yesterday I flipped my Jeeps hood open to do wiring and it banged into the garage door motor before it reached the windshield. I didn’t even GAF?‍?.
I bought this thing to get scratched?

I thought they stopped doing the eTorque with the 2.0T for some reason? In any case, I think I would've gone that route had they pushed the factory tuning a bit higher. There's no reason they couldn't have hit 300 HP/TQ without any reliability or longevity issues.

Had the factory SRT tune been an option with 340/369, I absolutely would've jumped on that, which imo are the perfect 'standard' numbers for a vehicle of this weight (closer to 400 would've been ideal, but that's better left to the i6).

My v6 eTorque shits-and-gets 'good enough' I guess, but for some reason I really had a problem buying a blown 4-banger that couldn't even match the factory numbers of my last car in the same config.

I know some people here won't acknowledge them as Wrangler competitors, but if the Bronco can manage 300/325 from their 4 and 330/415 from their 6, while the Defender does 296/295 and 395/406 respectively (and none of these at crazy 392 prices), then Jeep can certainly figure out how to get their engine offerings to hit more competitive specs while still keeping relatively affordable pricing.

Me too. My nice car I worried about. This I’m like - sure little buddy, you can eat your French fries and chocolate milk in the back seat . I truly don’t care. And I have more in this stupid 392 rig than I did any car.
