Screwball is an understatement, I made the mistake of riding with him to the hunting camp ONCE , a Thrill Ride , complete disregard for all lights, signs, lanes, lines, traffic laws . Thankfully there was plenty of beer on ice at camp. ? ………. Rode squeezed in the middle of my friends Taco for the long ride home, he drove by himself.

You could call the 392 a 35K option but part of the expense is a lot of other optional equipment became standard. It's typical of the oppressive fuel economy regime driven outcomes. To buy a more powerful engine there has to be enough profit to cover purchases of mileage credits from Tesla.

I wonder why the 3.6 eTorque which goes into the Ram 1500 has 20 more hp than the Wrangler version. Maybe mileage credits. The Ram has a larger footprint which allows it to burn more gas.

The Hurricane will come. It could be as early as 2024 MY. Remember, there are 2 versions. It will be expensive, but probably not as much as the 392. It might pick up eTorque, possibly with the electric motor replacing the torque converter as in the 4Xe. Mild hybrid designs are proliferating through the Stellantis catalog.

Don’t know what Stellantis will do, but maybe corporate will give Jeep division some freedom to try their own thing.

With new car prices reaching the point of being out of reach for too large of a segment of the population, if I were Jeep, I would pursue a product strategy that would be hybrid of the strategy that Ford chose with the Maverick and Mazda chose with the Miata.

First, the Maverick. Lots of pickup owners look down their noses on it, yet there are plenty of pickup owners that see it meets all their basic requirements at about half the price of a mid-size or full-size pickup. There are also new buyers to the market segment who could see the utility of owning a pickup truck but saw mid-size and full-size trucks as overkill or impractical.

Next the Miata. At $29k base price, it has multiple things going for it. There are some that want a convertible. Some who like the looks of it. And finally people who appreciate a true driver’s car but won’t/can’t pay for a Porsche. It’s like the original BMW 3 series.

So I would propose a Wrangler JC and JCU, “C” for “classic”. Put a standard output Hurricane (not modified or tuned at all for the Wrangler but shared with the most common configuration used across the Stellantis fleet) into a new basic chassis and 4 wheel drive train that is plenty sufficient for 80% of the off-roading that its off-roading customers do with the JCU variant being 1,400 lbs lighter than the JLU. It would be as de-digitalized as possible. No UConnect. Just dials. Bring your own phone or tablet or aftermarket head unit. The Wrangler JC would be the most analog vehicle sold in America. But it would have all kinds of attachment hard points and an electrical power/signal bus integrated into its chassis to allow all kinds of user programmable hardware/software mods via Raspberry Pi or Arduino or whatever the successor to those technologies happen to be.

Like a Miata for the driving enthusiast, the JC is designed around the fundamental hardware essentials for a capable off road vehicle that can be appreciated by a trail enthusiast. Solid axles. Off-road gearing and transfer case. Tires pushed out to the corners of a passenger compartment and body that is narrow enough to allow space for tire articulation. Removable doors and tops. Water fording. Lightweight enough that behind the wheel you feel comfortable tossing around the vehicle.

And MSRP would be $20k less than its JL cousins. Mechanical structures made of crudely manufactured parts that don’t need to support the overweight body mass of the JL and you don’t mind breaking on the trail because they are reasonably priced in terms of replacements.

I held off on replacing my totaled Jeep for a bit to give my wife some peace of mind. Replaced it with an M8 Competition, which now she has new concerns. Go figure

I probably won’t get a new Jeep until they release the I-6, which could very well be another 2 years. I am hoping it’s not a hybrid, but I’m not holding my breath.

From the recent rubicon anniversary editions, what do you all think pricing will start? I know it’s completely speculative, just trying to gauge where I might start before upgrades.

Looks good! This would be my work vehicle so I need the 4 doors. I am looking at the Fronze Tanzanite Blue Metallic, which is the flat blue. I have a GTR track edition for getting there a bit quicker when the need for speed takes over.

@alksion that bmw is HOT! I gave up my 392 as my daily driver (the seat never got comfy) and lucked out that someone couldnt take delivery of their 23 X7 custom so i nabbed it. Love it. Still have the 392 for fun- and dude got a new raptor r (still has a trx on order) while daughter drives her rubi and begs for a jailbreak. But gosh- my last bmw was in the 90's- the comfort- the speed- the fact that Bart does whatever i tell him to do- so in love. Your interior is gorgeous! Man- what a fun drive it must be! I call Bart my bougievan bc lets face it- x7 is a minivan. Oh so jealous of your Beemer!!!!!

There has been really no sign pointing that the new hurricane I-6 will be implemented into the wrangler what we have is pure speculations, I would say that IF and that’s a big IF, but we were to ever see that happen it will be strictly available in a model similar to the 392 and be configured in away to be able to handle that kind of power for the capabilities of the wrangler means you’d have lots of tweaks already standards in that model so expect the price to exceed that of the 392 as we’re talking about possibly years down the road and with this inflation increase on everything it could easily hit the $ 100K mark no doubt! If you’ve shopped BMW you can see how that scenario has played out over the past few years, all manufacturers are on the same bandwagon ???? essentially I see jeep going forward with the 2.0 and 4xe as their main two platforms the 3.6 might linger around a bit longer but we’ll probably see more electric options in the lineup with future releases, just my two cents.

Gawd I miss my 4.0 I6 in my TJ. Incredible low end torque.

Take your 392 to an upholstery shop and let them replace the foam, it's worth every penny if you have a great shop.
