Spent the weekend drilling tapping my steering box with success. Installed a 8inch ram and a power steering cooler for my junkyard Dana 60 kingpin. I have been driving with no stabilizer or front sway bar for the last 5000 miles and have had zero issues except for lack of power steering on the trails. With the Hydro assist I immediately noticed how much everything easier it is turning the 40 inch tires when stopped on the road. Can’t wait to get it back on the trail.

Did you drill out the steering box yours? If so, did you take the guts out of it or did you just use grease as you were doing everything? Any pics of the steering box? Tips?

I took the factory box apart. It is very easy. 7 bolts to open the steering box. I’ll post some pictures later. The trick is setting the parts in the freezer to aid in reassembly. Thanks to redneck ram for the advice.

Yeah, I saw the light bright redneck ram video and it looks like that box comes apart super easy! I’d rather do that then take a chance of getting any shavings in there. Sounds like you did exactly what my plan is. I’d rather do it myself then be without the jeep for a couple of weeks, and I like the PSC Rams better than the redneck Rams.

Yeah it’s pretty straight forward easy to clean up. Just be extremely careful reassembling the steering box.

How did you mount the cooler and what brand is that? I am thinking about adding a cooler as well.

Where did you end up drilling the box, do you have any dimensions or measurements for the ports?

Here’s some pictures I stole off the web. The one on the side looks like it can go anywhere, and the one on top is centered on the square piece of metal. I haven’t done this yet, but will do it in October.

I just ordered the ram kit from Poly Performance

PSC Single End 8" Stroke Cylinder Assist Cylinder SKU: PSC-SC2200K

8”x1.5”. I’ll take it apart and limit it to 6.5” which is what I need. I used discount code POLYFB10 and it’s $184.25 delivered! I may start on it sooner, but it’s pretty damn hot where I live so we’ll see.

I assume your running the factory electric pump? Did you install the Apex Higher pressure kit?

Any updates on this ram setup? Do good on the trails? What did you use to limit the ram?

I haven’t installed mine yet. I took the ram apart and made an aluminum bushing for it. It took me a minute to figure out that the piston is actually threaded onto the shaft. And it is has Lock tight. PSC ram.
