How's Auto Start/Stop?

We've had our 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sahara for a couple of weeks now and has only accumulated about 300 miles. Since the auto start/stop hasn't engaged yet due to the break-in period (I think), I was wondering how it performs? Is it smooth? Does it shake the vehicle violently when it turns back over? I realize that this is a very hated feature with most people but for those who do use it, how well does it work?

Also, I'm not quite sure if the reason it hasn't engaged yet is because of the break-in period. I don't know if it's supposed to operate right away or waits until a certain milestone. And does it depend on how hard you press the brake pedal? I'm sure I can look all of this up on the forum somewhere but getting relative feedback would be most appreciated.

It isn't working because the batteries are undercharged. If you change the EVIC screen to #5 or #6 it will give you the stop start status. It probably has a "battery charging" message. I would strongly suggest hitting the off switch and never using it. It is indeed jerky, but the main issue is it will kill your batteries and leave you stranded. This has been well documented on this forum.

The experience depends on the engine type. If you have an eTorque it is so seamless that you almost don't notice it. Do you have the 2.0L or 3.6L?

OP is in south florida so probably hot and using AC which if your vehicle is cooling or heating it will not activate....

it is amazing who quick it becomes a reflex to just hit the off switch. now when I get in my wife's mazda cx5 turbo I am reaching for the off switch and we don't even have auto start on that car.

I got my 3.6 Willys less than 2 weeks ago. That feature started while I was still on the dealers lot and it has been working ever since. Certain situations may turn the engine back on immediately (ac, heated steering wheel, defroster…) but it’s been working as expected. I don’t mind it because I barely notice it. We’ve owned Subarus and whoa, do you notice the engine kicking back on. Those boxer engines can shake a tooth loose.

its the one feature everyone agrees (and not just here) that you should not use. wear and tear on the starter motor, hassle with extra battery, and the anxiety that it might not restart are all decent reasons to simply shut it off get into that habit.

I have the e-Torque and my friends are amazed at how smooth it is.

I had the Auto Stop/Start nonsense active for a few monts before permanently disabling it. When it was on tne re-start in my '23 Jl was very smooth. Curious...why do you like it.?

It gets annoying when it sometimes activates at a stop sign or when parking in a parking spot or your driveway and it decides to activate/de-activate. I know it's not smart enough to know but I can't help but feel it's very similar to the government when it comes to automobile safety ideas.

I don't like it in theory. If it's seamless, I don't mind using it, especially if I forget to turn it off. If it's like our Crosstrek we had several years ago that rattles the car like a paint shaker, then of course I'm gonna hate it. I have it currently in my Maverick and it's buttery smooth. Not just that but the engine itself is so refined for being a 4-cylinder turbo.

Ours is just the regular 3.6L, no e-torque. I will say I finally experienced it on the way home from dinner tonight. It wasn't half bad. You feel a little jolt when it kicks back on but nothing like I thought it was gonna be. It was a lot like my Maverick where you barely feel it.
