It doesn't always save fuel. For some people, it consumes more fuel. That's the point.

I would say it is only in the U.S. that people think "I like something, therefore everyone is required to have said thing."
Like clean air and not breathing exhaust fumes from the vehicle in front of you?
I like those things, I'm pretty sure that's a worldwide phenomenom.

The math doesn’t account for the gas used with the umpteen trips to the shop to repeatedly get auxiliary batteries nor the gas of the vehicle used to rescue your stranded rear.

My Wrangler has ASS just by nature of it being a 4xe, and that's fine for me because it doesn't use a traditional starter and (arguably) isn't really putting any extra wear and tear on anything, and it still does a rolling idle even when the ICE is off because of the hybrid motors. From the driver's seat it feels and behaves like a normal vehicle without ASS.

But I absolutely 100% cannot stand ASS on regular ICE vehicles. The behavior is obnoxious, I hate that the car doesn't roll immediately when you let off the brake from a stop because the engine has to turn over first, you have to listen to the damn thing turn over all the time... it's just an ASS driving experience. I always disable it (permanently if possible) in every non-hybrid vehicle I own. I don't care if that means I use $4 more in gasoline a month.

I think the 4xe is best of both worlds. I drive my commute on battery, play in the hills on gas. Works great for me.

I’ll admit it. I didn’t watch it.

But why show what people thought it would take to be beneficial based on a survey instead of showing what it actually could save? Did they mention who they surveyed? Was it mechanics, environmentalists, or a car full of nuns?
You could like, watch it and find out?

Mostly just a developed, "first world" nation thing. Places where we're lucky enough to complain about stop/start. But, increasingly, we are insistent that we NOT be that anymore... sad.

Personally I find ASS on ANY vehicle equipped with it to be annoying as hell. Is it a big deal to push the button every time I get in or restart my vehicle, no, no it's not but that doesn't make it any less of a PITA!

Here's a thought, if the manufactures insist on equipping vehicles with ASS how about you reverse the function of it and instead of us having to push the damn button every time to turn it off they make it so, IF, you want to use ASS you have to push the button to turn it on. I think if that's how it worked the VAST majority of us would be a lot happier.

Like many have already mentioned, if you own a Jeep Wrangler of any year/configuration AND you're concerned about MPG, welllll, you bought the wrong vehicle!

Disconnect the hood switch and you’ll never have to hit the dash switch again.

My start/stop hasn't worked for about a year now. I don't miss having to turn it off all the time, and though I haven't actually tracked MPG, I haven't noticed any change.

I should point out EV's don't have these stupid problems. They can "idle" in traffic all day with the AC blowing cold without burning gasoline at only 50% efficiency, or diluting oil with fuel, or clogging a DPF.

💅🏿

Honest answer; I don't want it to be on by default every single time I restart my Jeep. I don't want to spend money on an aftermarket device to hack into my vehicles computer brain just to reprogram the way a single button works.

If it would just permanently stay off at the press of a button, then no one would even be talking about this.

This - all settings should default to as set at shutdown upon launch like old manual controls do !! We should not have to reset our preferred settings every start. This applies to all computerized vehicles. … Indeed

Oh yeah- and give us the option in settings so we don’t have to get a Tazer and NoLimitz JL for adjustments and to turn the unwanted crap off. Once.

Tired again
Engineering Everything is awesome. I’ve learned a lot of automotive knowledge from his videos. I’m not sure why back in the day it was more cost effective/fuel efficient to leave the car idling at a stop light or drive thru instead of shutting it off and restarting it. But I used to do that and my dad always told me my car was using more fuel to restart it then it was to leave it idle for 30ish seconds. Now it’s the other way around. And if I leave my ASS on it still restarts itself if I’ve sat too long at a light even if I haven’t put my foot on the clutch again. I try to always turn it off because I one stop light on my commute in town and I always get stuck there and it’s like 2 minutes long and the car just restarts anyway.
ASS monitors your battery (and car) as you wait for a light, and will restart it if the battery is getting too low, or the A/C compressor needs to work to keep the car cool, etc.
