How much do you pay for your Jeep registration?

$20 yearly here in Georgia. But when you buy a vehicle you pay a title ad valorem tax (TAVT) fee which is a 6.6% rate of fair market value of the vehicle upfront. So they make you pay it all upfront instead of yearly. So for our just under $57k JLU we bought back in Sept we paid roughly $3800 upfront for this TAVT fee.

Yeah up here in NH, when new my 2021 Sahara (46K) regs about $800, nut it drops every year as its tied to the value of the vehicle. But we have no sales tax or income tax so they gotta get their money from somewhere! At least its a tax you can avoid by driving old cars, unlike sales or income taxes...

Over $400 for my 2018 last year in Kansas... the property taxes are ridiculous here, but then I see California and feel better about it. No wonder so many people from Kansas go to Oklahoma and Texas to register their vehicles.

I guess that's one positive about Kansas, we do have pretty good roads.

CO is more than a little eff'ed up on this (after coming from TX). So you buy a vehicle and pay part of the sales tax during the deal. When you register it, you pay additional sales tax that is prorated for the first 5 years (reducing each year) based upon the value of the vehicle and the county that you live in.

Since my Jeep was bought in TX and I already paid sales tax, this was more than a little crooked from my perspective--how many times can you sell the same vehicle to yourself?

I believe my first year registration in 2022 was about $380 on my 2019 JLUR (which includes a $50 one time fee for my specialized plate). I waited until about 2 months before my TX tags were set to expire to reduce the amount of tax I had to pay.

I pay about $60 a year in TX, but they get us in another way with our property and state taxes. You're gonna pay one way or the other. LOL
