I had a windshield replaced. They quoted an amount similar to your quote. I explained I didn't have adaptive cruise, which at first they didn't believe because they thought all Wranglers but the base had adaptive cruise. They ran the VIN and the non-adaptive cruise glass, without calibration, was $815 or so and took a week or two to get.

Doesn't your insurance cover windshield replacement. $100 no deductible across my vehicles. Cars with the adaptive cruise/lane monitoring, etc. has never needed calibration. I get why calibration would be needed, but new windshield has always been accurate after replacement.
My deductible is $1,000. If I use it I will save $186 but will then have a claim on my record which could impact future rates.

It might not recalibrate if you are lifted with bigger tires. Will be interested to see what happens…
Good point. I wonder if they are unable to calibrate if they won't charge for it, still charge for it, or if they will refuse to do the work.

There is no way they should be charging that much to re-calibrate the sensors. Did you check multiple places to see what they quote?

Internet lore says that it throws a code and you get a check engine light. But keep us posted. This worried me enough to get racing optics film so I would not have to replace so often.

Maybe call another place and ask how much glass is for a Sport, or some trim without adaptive cruise? At least you'd know how much the glass is, versus the cost for calibration.

It's $369 for one without adaptive cruise so just over $700 for the "calibration."

I am going to visit some other places in person hoping that being face-to-face and seeing the windshield in person helps to have a common sense conversation.

Please tell me more about the racing optics film. For some reason the windshields on my vehicles seem to have a bullseye on them. I didn't get the adaptive speed sensors in the windshield on my ordered Wrangler due to the expense to replace. My Mazda CX5 has all the sensors attached to the windshield and it was at a minimum once a year replacement and expensive.

They have specials from time to time. If you have a new windshield it really lays down good and not spotty. If you have imperfections then YMMV. 3 layers and no chips or cracks for me… yet.
