Do nothing???? There is a whole world out there and you can control your time and pace. I think we spend more money at home then we do traveling at times.
This.

Like others here, I also began a very busy career at an early age and ended up being just as busy after I retired. I know that many of us think we'll just sit around and do nothing, but you'd be surprised at how many opportunities are out there. There's so much to see, learn, and explore before we all croak (even if you don't like traveling), so there's absolutely no reason to be bored. All that said, I can totally understand why people choose to work as long as they are physically able to, as there are so many unknowns that can affect health, finances, and family. I've seen many cases, where even one medical issue can drain a family's savings, so it makes sense to keep building that nest egg as long as you can, especially with sharply rising prices and an uncertain future for investments. Unfortunately, I have to temporarily return to work due to recent events, but the "to-do" list for my second retirement is rapidly growing!

At this point I am LITERALLY going Friday to Friday holding off giving notice.
I'm waiting for the weather to break which is just another lame excuse not to retire at this point.
I gave my retirement notice today after staring at the email I penned this morning for an hour before sending it. So it's official. March 28th ends a 50 year (9 to 5) career. I started having SS deducted from my paychecks in 1974. crazy

Okay what is your first big plan? Any adventures? World travel? Do you know how to find cheap flights or how to find cheap international travel?

So, I think some of you would benefit from these travel tips. Mind you, I use these and have had great success.

So the best way to find flights on the cheap is Google flights. the trick is to only put in the airport that you wish to travel from and leave the destination and dates blank. Then click explore.

Like this.

Then it will give you flights. Even though there are dates, and maybe you want a different date, you can adjust the dates and see the prices.

Note these are round trip prices!!!!

There were more flights, but you get the point. You can literally fly somewhere for a weekend or whatever for the price of taking your spouse to a movie and dinner. Or...... a tank of fuel in your Jeep. Like why would you not go hang out on South Beach for a long weekend?

So now you know how to get cheap flights.

So let's talk International travel. We have used this many times. I know it looks to good to be true, Yet, we have used it with great success.

There is an app called Groupon. https://www.groupon.com/

Many of you might already have it. Groupon is great for getting local deals on all kinds of stuff. I use Groupon for membership to Sam's Club for $25 getting 50% off the cost and Costco memberships for $20. You can get discounts and restaurants, golf courses. All kinds of things.

Yet the real deal is on Travel. On the app, you will want to look for Inclusive Air Travel in the "Categories" section of the app. Look under All Categories....Travels.... Air-Inclusive

There will be various airports from around the US that the flights leave from. you get to pick your dates. The trips usually includes the flights, lodging some or all the meals, excursions and all transportation from the airport to the hotels. The hotels are typically 4 or 5 star hotels.

Remember these are flights and lodging. Many of these cost less than you can find the flight. Just some screen shots.

When you click on the trip, It will show you where you can fly from, the dates the trips are available and the details of the trip. Often the have an agent you can call and a person you can talk to if you have any questions.

There is literally no reason to not go...... well other than a sick family member.

We are currently looking to go to Thailand in the winter. I have thought about doing 4 day to Hawaii for $699. Flight and lodging for $699 to Hawaii, how do you beat that. I am also interested in the Iceland, Scotland trip too, plus many more.

I hope this helps the ones that are just like I have nothing to do. Plan something so that you have something to look forward to.

There are not enough hours and days to get everything done. I have no idea how we managed to find the time to go to work and raise kids. I do admit I have learned to pace myself. My father had the best advice, "With proper planning and good execution, you can make a one hour job last all day long." I find that even when I have nothing to do it takes me all day to do it.

When you step back and look at it all...you know; the meaning of life kinda shit, we're all just scurrying around doing stuff. Do the stuff that makes you happy and fits your budget, etc. If that's sitting in a lawnchair with a cold one, so be it. Retirement doesn't mean you have to go to Machu Picchu and look at rocks, visit the Louvre, or the pyrimids. But do that if it drives you.

I pulled the pin 3 years ago after 28+ years.

I pick up a gig or two to work for fun now and then. My wife and I are about 8 years apart and she still wants to work but she could go any time.

Kids are adults (college aged) and we love to hang with them and support them when they need a hand.

I still love to train/workout and this Jeep business is a newer hobby for us.

We plan to make a few off road trips this spring and summer then fly down to Tampa for a weekend in May for fun.

Every day is Saturday and Sunday is more fun than ever!
At home.

With planning, it has taken me three days to remove 8 bolts to pull my front bumper, sand blast it, and paint it,install new fog lights (8 nuts to remove and put back on) and put the bumper back on. I still need to tightenn the bumper bolts today and plug in the lights.

We spend four to five days a week in the gym when not traveling. We do mix it up with hiking and biking when he weather is better. We both love to train in the gym.
