Hood Open Error Message

After leaving the dealer for an oil change the other day, a "Hood open" dash light came on. I checked and confirmed that the hood was closed. After some research, I learned that a hood sensor exists and that they easily get dust inside and trip/ fail.

I removed the rubber grommet and sprayed it extensively with a soapy water and compressed the plunger for a good minute to clear any debris. Let the Jeep sit for an hour, and turned it back on, same light came on. Has anyone had to exchange their faulty hood sensor? I am outside of the 3 year/36k warranty and don't think this will be covered, unless someone knows otherwise?

Good start with the sensor itself, mechanically. Now, check the connector and wiring going to the hood sensor, investigate the electrical properties of the sensor (I would assume the plunger position up/down would open/close the electrical circuit). Then chase the harness, see where it goes, maybe the oil change tech accidentally cut it.

Do all Jeeps have two plungers?
I saw two holes, but only have one plunger....
(There's a joke in there somewhere)

Jeep is in the shop getting a lift and tires installed, I'll check when I get it back.
Definitely going to feel like an idiot if it fell out of the bracket and is just hanging undermeath.

Water will damage those hood sensors.
I had to replace both in my previous ‘18 because they got wet.

Do all Jeeps have two plungers?

Most 392s have one plunger (some online images show 2), because the second plunger is ostensibly for ESS which 392s don't have.

i would have used an Electrical Contact Cleaner to clean that instead of water/soap.
now not only has it been contaminated by water, it's likely that there's a soapy residue left that will never be washed out.

i'd be expecting a need for a new sensor at this point.
