Ok guys, I need to pick your brains. This morning heading out in the Jeep. Started like normal, got about 100 yards down the drive and it died (has 3/4 tank fuel). Put it in park to start. Cranked it Over. Engine turns over strongly, but got one little “hit” with no start. Tried this three times, with same result. Ok, I’ll put it in neutral and push it to the side of the drive. No luck, it will NOT come out of Park! Move the transfer case to “N” and tried to push-no luck, it’s like it’s in gear. I went ahead and too the truck to town but I don’t have any idea on the Jeep. What say you’ll. Auxiliary battery? Tree rats on the wiring? Fuse? I’d appreciate any positive advice. Thanks!

Thanks. I’m going to go over it when I get home. I though maybe a fuel pump relay but not sure that would cause the trans to be locked in park

It's an electronic shifter, no actual cable. If electrics are goofy, might not have gotten the command to shift.

I I wonder if the aux battery could cause this, or if a fuel pump relay would?

If you've got working lights and the batteries load test fine, my thought would be the high amp fuse array.

Isolate batteries and check voltage/ load individually

I learned early in the game that the batteries can cause the Jeep to go into Exorcism mode when they're not both up to par. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the root cause. How old is your Jeep and are they original batts?

Had the same thing happen in a JK. Battery just clocked out, like, I'm done. However, it was still supplying enough voltage to do key-on and turn the engine over. Guy at the parts store said it was a failed cell.

Transfer case neutral should let the Jeep roll, though. Brake still on? Or, maybe it wasn't quite in neutral?

A bad Aux battery could cause the main battery to kill itself trying continuously and fruitlessly to recharge the aux battery. The symptoms are more likely to be directly caused by a main battery failure, but the cause of that failure could certainly be the aux battery (among many other possibilities).

Since the engine seems to have had no trouble turning over when you tried, I'm inclined to think it might not be a battery issue, my thought is more likely a different electrical issue. Like others suggested, check for loose connectors, blown or loose fuses, corrosion at battery and chassis ground points, etc.

Whenever you encounter a series of seemingly unrelated issues all at once, like your car dying / not restarting + shifter not working right, that makes me definitely think it's an electrical issue somewhere, the question is where. There's so many things to check, it's hard to offer a definitive answer.

Definitely odd that putting the TC in neutral wouldn't let you push the Jeep. I can't explain that one other than maybe the Jeep is way heavier than you thought it would be, or as NWJeepr said above, maybe it wasn't fully clicked into neutral or you forgot to take off the handbrake

Well, the TC neutral light came on and it sure “felt” like it was in. Checked fuses, relays, etc. Zip. Finally gave up and called my warranty company (Ally). They had a roll on here in 30 minutes and it’s at the local shop as we speak. Definitely weird. We tried the emergency release to place the trans in neutral and even That didn’t work😳. Once it comes home (next week) I’ll let y’all know what the cause was. I was just incredibly bless that it happened where and when it did. A few minutes and I’d have been on the highway. A few more and I’d have been on the slab😳.
