Hello out there...
Starting to get some bump steer or death wobble after installing Metal Cloak drag link and tie rod.
I have a 2018 4 door JL Rubicon 3.6L with 37000 miles.
I will give you a run down of what I have installed.
37" MT ATs with method 307s.
I have installed the Steer Smarts sector shaft brace and track bar, those have been on just over a year, No signs of death wobble or bump steer.
April this year I installed the Metal Cloak 2 1/2" game changer lift with 1/2" of spacers in the front and 3/4" in the rear so I am at about a 3" lift, still no signs of death wobble or bump steer.
I do have a rear adjustable track bar and adjustable control arms that are part of the lift.
Just before labor day of this year I replaced drag link and tie rod, had it aligned at Americas tire, maybe not the best place to have it done.
On labor day we drove 4 hours to run the Rubicon, no issues on the way there, no issues on the trail, no issues on the way home. We have done the Rubicon twice this year with the game changer lift and once with the added drag link and tie rod.
I still have the stock knuckles and ball joints.
After the Labor day Rubicon run I started getting the wobbling/shaking on the steering wheel at lower speeds, around 40 mph. It will stop shaking by slowing down.
I jacked up the jeep to check the ball joints by grabbing the tire to try and shake it side to side, up and down and any which way I could but both tires seemed to be solid with no play.
So this is where I am stuck, is there another way to check the ball joints? Every steering component is new, the wobbling didn't show up until the tie rod and drag link were replaced.
Do I need to raise the track bar?
In the picture below, the bottom of the drag link bar is just above the top of the track bar. Its tough to get the right perspective with the Ipad but that is what I am seeing with the two bar angles.
Is that enough difference in angles to cause bump steer or death wobble?
With the amount of lift that I have would I need to flip the drag link and raise the track bar? From what I have been reading on front track bar relocation brackets(Synergy & Metal Cloak) it seems you don't need to flip parts until you go more than 3-3 1/2"?
let me know your thoughts, thanks.
