Come to find out, this is a common problem. It turns out that in order to comply with certain "green laws", auto manufacturers have made some of their wiring harnesses and other plastic items partly out of a biodegradable, corn-based product. It is that corn-based product that attracts those rodents that end up causing the damage to those plastic items. Not sure how to remedy that problem other than taking some "pot-shots" at said rodents or trapping them. Good luck!
