Late last year, I found out that mice had gotten to some of the wiring and chewed right thru it for my turbocharger on my F-150. It cost about $300 to repair. Come to find out, this is a common problem. It turns out that in order to comply with certain "green laws", auto manufacturers have made some of their wiring harnesses and other plastic items partly out of a biodegradable, corn-based product. It is that corn-based product that attracts those rodents that end up causing the damage to those plastic items. Not sure how to remedy that problem other than taking some "pot-shots" at said rodents or trapping them. Good luck!

So I was curious what the natural predators of squirrels might be. Below is a partial list. I'd recommend getting a grizzly bear and chaining it to your Jeep. :)

Hawks, owls, eagles, magpies, ravens, shrikes, skunks, weasels, martens, minks, badgers, wolverines, foxes, coyotes, wolves, bobcats, lynxes, cougars, black-footed ferrets, black and grizzly bears, domesticated cats and dogs, snakes of many sorts, possums, and humans. This is by no means a complete list.

Sorry about your critter problem, and your bumper getting chewed up.

But i wouldnt have made an insurance claim paying a deductible, and the more than likely possibility of your rate going up when you can easily find a take off bumper for basically free and put it on yourself. So easy to do btw. One of the pros of owning a jeep. Take offs are dirt cheap(or free pending what it is), and its easy to swap out yourself.

Jus saying....to each there own.

Yeah, for $250 I would have gladly let one of my JLUS bumpers go for sure.

Barbecued squirrel, stewed squirrel, fried squirrel, slow-cooked squirrel . . . OTOH, you might want to grab your nuts and run like hell.
And my favorite, squirrel pot pie.

If your insurance is Farmers, then I bet you’ll be the next commercial :cwl:
Hahahaha! I'm going to write to them tonight. "Squirrels got you chewed up? We've got you covered."

If I didn't have a $0 deductible, I wouldn't have gone down the insurance route. If it continues to happen, I'll definitely be be taking care of it myself.

Dude! You're in NoVA, I’m in SoMD. If you ever need a JLU bumper because squirrels eat it, I will let them both go cheap. Taking up space in the garage.
Thanks for the offer! I'll definitely take you up on that if it happens again and you still have the bumpers.

I actually ordered a rubber snake off Amazon tonight. Probably going to scare the hell out of the kids in the neighborhood but hopefully, it will keep the squirrels away.

That's not a bad idea. I'll try anything at this point. I've found several "Squirrel Repellent" sprays on Amazon but not sure what they might do to the plastic.
I actually did this to a friend's door trim in his house that his dog kept chewing and I got tired of fixing. It worked

SCIENCE!
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine was looking at my Sahara JLU for the first time and asked how I had already tore up the front bumper. Not knowing what he was talking about, I looked and saw several gouge marks on the left side of the bumper. Soon after, I witnessed a squirrel having a feast on the bumper. Within just a couple of weeks, my bumper is now torn up all over with deep teeth/gouge marks. Has anyone else had this problem? Minus upgrading the factory Sahara plastic bumper to steel, I'm at a loss on how to stop this. Insurance is replacing the bumper cover now but I'm sure it's going to continue to happen unless I find a solution or move somewhere with no squirrels.
Pics or it didn't happen.
