Say you go out and buy a larger capacity refrigerator (battery). Your food (energy) consumption hasn't change and therefore your food bill (amount of current needed to put back in the battery care of the alternator) remains the same with time despite the larger capacity appliance.
This is why you are perfectly fine to pair an H7 battery with a stock alternator of a JL that originally was equipped with an H6 battery.
With comparable prices between the two batteries I've consistently replaced my original H6 with H7s. Why not have the beefier battery if case you need the power?
Restated: just because an H7 is capable of providing more power doesn't mean you'll pull more when switching from an H6 to H7, and therefore you don't need a larger alternator unless (maybe) the battery swap is also consistent with also acquiring energy hungry appliances like winches and what not.
