Guess the fluid...

Hmm, I took a road trip last night to watch some hockey (250 miles round trip) and saw this fluid this morning. I don't have a black light to know for sure, but leaking rear shocks? Approximately 1400 on the odometer.

My guess would be brake fluid. It’s too far outboard to be shocks. What does it smell like?

Maybe a faint oil... But nothing really that I can detect. Please don't tell me to go taste it

I'd guess hydraulic fluid or shock absorber oil

Seeing as it’s running down the body of your shock absorber, I’m going to guess it’s the hydraulic oil from your shock.

Yeah I crawled under there after all the other road water dried. And it's still leaking a bit. Looks like a dealer trip in the morning. I'm just really surprised that both are leaking. One I could see, but both? I need to go buy a lottery ticket.

The unusually cold weather you are having has damaged the seals in the shocks. It seems you have surpassed the recommended operating temperature of those shocks. This is what happened to the Challenger Space Shuttle.

It won’t be free like warranty replacements from the dealership, but this give you the perfect opportunity to install some Rubicon shocks and springs for dirt cheap if you want. Most are selling for < $200. In even willing to ship if you buy the ones I’m getting rid of.

Out of curiosity, are the shocks/springs the same for a 2 door and 4 door? And I don't really want any lift. I'm short

Shocks will not affect your height, it is the springs that will lift you about 1 1/2". You can keep the springs and install the shocks.

I disagree. I'd be shocked (no pun intended) if it's not covered under warranty. I expect better quality from Jeep. They better not even hassle you about it!

That is what I thought, but didn't know if the Rubicon had a different size shock.

I'm honestly not worried about the warranty. My main concern was identifying the issue. And making sure I did not cause more harm by being ignorant. But I guess this will be my first real test of my dealer so I'll keep you all posted

I think @jeep noob was stating that upgrading to rubicon shocks won’t be free. Replacing leaky shocks will certainly be replaced under warranty. Might not be in stock. Another forum member had the same problem and it took like 4 months to get a factory replacement shock.
