Is that what this cop was doing? Lying about the law, berating the OP for his mods, threatening him when questioned about the actual mirror requirements, and then "letting him go with a warning"? If the OP said he almost side swiped someone and the cop went off on him that's a different story. The cop pulled him over under false presences and then proceeded to look for anything he could actually write him up for. It's the sane reason when we are traveling with a group of Jeeps and 1 gets pulled over the rest head up the road to wait. I've seen them walk the line of vehicles looking for fix it tickets. Maybe their bitter that they are working on Saturday and we are going wheeling? Maybe they are just out trying to generate revenue? Doesn't matter as it's still an illegitimate traffic stop.
OP is an example of just caring about yourself on the road, nothing to praise.
BTW I have a H.S. diploma and I know a wall of text when I see it.

Just because I can do your job doesn't mean I want to? In my opinion it takes a weird personality to go in to law enforcement. Especially the highway patrol side. Pretty much every interaction you have will be negative. It's either you're pulling people over or they just got in an accident. Nobody is ever having a good day. Odd career choice to want everyone you interact with to be having a terrible day? Sometimes you're actually catching people who are dangerous, but for the most part you're looking for minor infractions to generate revenue.
You're a proctologist. 🙄

I don't disagree. I don't work in public service, it's not something I'd enjoy doing. It's probably why I respect public servants though. They have a hard job, and they do a job I wouldn't want to do myself, but is necessary/important. I don't know why they choose it, and it's none of my business.

With well over a half a million peace officers in the US, it is “smarter” and more efficient to make categorical assumptions and statements about them as an entire group based on our limited experience. With any group that isn’t “us” it’s safer to categorize the other group as “them” rather than seeing individuals.

S5.2.1 Field of view. Each passenger car shall have an outside mirror of unit magnification. The mirror shall provide the driver a view of a level road surface extending to the horizon from a line, perpendicular to a longitudinal plane tangent to the driver's side of the vehicle at the widest point, extending 2.4 m out from the tangent plane 10.7 m behind the driver's eyes, with the seat in the rearmost position. The location of the driver's eye reference points shall be those established in Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 104 (§ 571.104) or a nominal location appropriate for any 95th percentile male driver.

Other subsections address the requirement for a passenger side mirror with detailed criteria. Go read it for yourself.
This is federal - State laws override this.

WISCONSIN: https://wisconsindot.gov/Pages/safe...consin Statute 346.88 (3,300 feet to the rear.

May I operate without a rear view mirror?

No, there must be a rear view mirror located inside or outside the vehicle, or both. Side mirrors are required if you cannot see 300 feet to the rear.

The ignorance is huge, when turning your head your not looking forward.
Really the only time to turn your head is if you are STOPPED and getting ready to merge into traffic.
That is not propper driving, you are supposed to look over your shoulder and check your blind spot every time you change lanes no matter how many mirrors you have.

You must not watch people drive. They don’t use the mirrors they have.
I watch them. I'll usually look at the driver 50/50 with the car their in.
In my years of driving , just expect the worst thing someone could do and you shouldnt be surprised if it happens.
Many years driving of Fifth Ave and Madison Aves etc...will teach that.

So all those vehicles built without passenger side mirrors, you're just supposed to blindly change lanes?
Which vehicles built in the last 50 years does not have a right side mirror.
A good tip if you're in a vehicle without a right side mirror is stay in the right lane.

And only make left turns, because our necks don't work and we drive by mirrors and braille
