I love the semi-autonomous steering in my wife's AMG GLC43, but I can't imagine that computer-controlled / motorized steering would hold up to rock crawling. It looks like they're standardizing on this across Stellantis.

It'd be active on road, but the motors and infrastructure would need to be durable enough to not break when we're off road.

Motors and durability would be easy, not concerned about that at all. Not doing something stupid though, that's a completely different story.

"Smart Cockpit" utilizes ChatGPT, but that means an internet connection must be made. Some of the places I go there is no wireless, so if the Jeep has to phone home just for me to adjust the HVAC settings that's probably not going to work out for me.

ChatGPT doesn't require Internet if the data and model are local and there's enough computing power to drive it.

I'm guessing their deal with Qualcomm includes sufficient horsepower. I'm just speculating, of course.

An Apple M2 or M3 chip could handle AI tasks fairly quickly, with sufficient RAM for multiple ongoing complex operations. I would think cloud-based AI would be far too slow, as well as the aforementioned problem of poor or no internet bandwidth being available. It would have to be organic to the vehicle.
