I've owned four JKs - all 2-doors. I'm about to (somewhat reluctantly) order my first 4-door, basically to get the diesel engine. Any thoughts from those who've "added doors"? Is the extra wheelbase unwieldy? Passenger capacity is a non-issue - I don't even run a back seat in my 2-door.

But...I'm itching to feel that torque.

originally i was going to get a 4 door just to have the extra space and comfortable ride. i test drove a sport s and it was ok.i just didnt like all the bells and whistles, plus the price tag. i decided to get a 2 door because i didnt need the extra space and the price was better. also the ride comfort was just as good i'm glad i went with a two door sport.

as for you, i would test drive the diesel and see if its worth getting vs the 3.6l gas motor. imho, i just dont see spending the extra $$$ for the diesel and pay more at the pump, plus maintenance. the 3.6 is just as good for the wrangler.

It's like driving a whale that ate another whale while riding on top of a whale, man. Start building your arm muscles now.

Lol, nah it's fine. My sister has a 2-door and I have a 4-door. We swap jeeps all the time. She told me it feels the exact same and sometimes she forgets she's not in hers lol (although I have the heated seats and she doesn't)

My ‘19 was a 2-door, which was fun because I like small vehicles (had Miatas before). When that one was bought back I got a 4-door.

I don’t have kids in the house, but still found the 2-door to be impractical when my daughter and her fiancé came to visit or when I needed to take the dog anywhere. My husband has a two-seater roadster so my Jeep is our practical vehicle.

As for driving, it drives great! Maybe I really notice it because the steering was so bad in my ‘19 and is so good in my ‘20. I love driving it and the bigger Jeep is still a blast. Honestly, it’s still easy to park and just feels great.

It’s also great for trips to the nursery (bags of soil are in front of the hydrangeas).

Keep the 2 door! Hemi swap time

With the rear seat out a 2 door is quite useful. But I do wish Jeep made a 2 part rear seat, where you could remove just one side for a 3 seater.

My wife recently traded in her 2-dr JK for a 4-dr JLU (the one in my profile pic). We used to make fun of the 4-dr JKUs when we'd see them on the road. "Look, there goes another taffy Jeep" (stretched wheelbase). Now that she has one she loves it. Much smoother ride than her old 2013 JK and she can carry a lot more in it.

I don't think she'd ever want to go back to a 2-dr.

We have no kids at home but we have lots of friends so I went with a 4 door. I like the extra room when you need it unexpectedly plus I feel safer towing with the longer and heavier Jeep. It's grown on me now where I personally think the 4 door Jeeps look better than the 2 doors. jmho.

I've had two Pentastars, and I'm very happy with the engine. I've also had two minivan-sourced 3.8 liters (Ugh!). I'm just ready for a change. Fuel economy is not a motive, but it's a nice side benefit - torque is intoxicating.

If you are planning to get a 4-door just to get the diesel...you don't really have to. Either gas motor works awesome with the new 8-speed automatic. Compared to JK, even the same 3.6 V6 feels peppier, more responsive and more refined.

Good luck.
