So as long as the RPM is under 2500 the engine braking is not noticable. When I am going down a hill into town I am usually in M7 on CC and I cancel the CC and start to downshift. Once I get to 4th and the revs get to 2500 is when the system opens the vanes on the turbo to make back pressure. It will not let you go to a gear that is too low.

This is good information about the GDE engine braking. Most important to note, it only engages if you have the transmission in manual mode. If you are in manual mode, not accelerating (or maintaining speed), and the RPMs exceed 2500 RPMs, then the back pressure will kick in and create engine braking. It is not perfect, but it is awesome compared to the nonexistent engine braking our engines make (or don’t make) naturally.

I can’t see where that would kick in unless you downshifted manually.

Pulled the trigger on the tune this weekend. ECM is currently in transit to GDE.

I went with the ESS disable option and the Exhaust braking. Looking forward to getting it tuned up this week!

ESS disable? Did not have that option three years ago. First thing I did to mine is to install a Tazer to take care of that and display the boost gauge.

Yes! I think it is a pretty new option. It is an additional $50.

So I sent a note asking them about adding the ESS disable option to the tune I bought back in ‘22. This is what I got back:

“I would suggest to wait until later in the summer to do it, we have another update coming to address oil analysis and maybe some fuel economy improvements as well”

Hmm… Can’t wait to see what that’s all about. 🍿

So it’s $50 for the flash plus $50 to permanently disable the ESS. Might spring for the regen notification as well. Should be able to get that amount back if I sell my Tazer.

That is good to know. I just got the tune installed this weekend. So far my only complaints are the lag from a stop and the downshift from 2nd to 1st. Im messaging the company about those as they are pretty bad. Perhaps its because im doing most of my driving above 7500' of elevation.

Power on the highway is great, cant tell yet on MPG, DPF SL% seems to be going up slower that it was before but time will tell. Most of my driving this weekend was on forest roads and gravel since i was camping near home.

The 2-1 is a little harsh when cold. I believe that it has something to do with the torque converter lockup. Tends not to as prevalent when warm. If I didn’t have my wife’s untuned diesel to contrast it I would probably not even notice it.

Interesting that yours isnt as bad. Its REALLY bad on mine right now. Hopefully GDE can help me figure out whats going on. I may try and get some video of it to share for more useful input.

This is very interesting. Hopefully they don’t take to long to come out with this update.

I plan to pick up a new to me jeep at the end of July first part of august and plan to get there tune so if they have the improved version by then save me hassle later on.

Also any one know if you can take the jeep directly to them and they do the tune there in house? The jeep I’m currently looking at isn’t that far from there shop since the jeep is in Michigan and I have family that way and be up there for a several days if they do tune in house figure just stop by and get it done while there instead of having to pull the ecu etc.

My understanding is you can take it to them. Recommend you give them a call.

Yes, you can take the Jeep to them. That is what I did last November. It was awesome chatting with them during the install. They have a ton of knowledge about our diesel Jeeps.

Good luck and enjoy your Jeep.
