Is there a harm in using 85 Octane with the 3.6L Pentastar? I made two trips to Utah this year, 2 weeks in March, 10 days in July. Both trips I filled with 85 when it was offered. I was a little leary filling the tank with it for the first time. But it never gave me any issues at all and no perceivable loss of power. In fact the best gas mileage I've ever gotten was when it had 85 octane in it.

The best gas mileage was when I was doing highway driving, Moab to Page, AZ and back. I don't recall exactly but I think I got about 21+mpg or a little more on those legs, and I was over 20mpg much of both trips. Those trips are the only time I've gotten better than 20mpg. Here in MN I get about 16mpg in winter and 18+ in summer. I have a stock 6MT JLUR with 315/70x17s. I don't know why the mileage was so good on those trips.

Back in the day I lived in MT, low grade back then (maybe still?) was 85.5 octane. I put that in my fuel injected 87 4Runner and it always ran great.
