Has anyone who is using HotShots (or the like) fuel additive had a pump failure? It's portrayed as the Sword of Damocles, but there doesn't seem to be much actual failing taking place.
Use Hot Shots on every fill up. Peace of mind with the recall out there. An added bonus, I've noticed consistent passive regens and my def seems to last hundreds of miles before adding more Blue Platinum. Also after 5,000 to 6,000 along with changing the oil I pour Hot Shots Diesel Extreme in the fuel tank. My most recent oil change I tried for the first time Hot Shots Lx4 lubricacy Extreme additive with the recommended Pennzoil.

Speaking of additives. I have recently been told by a friend that my lazy way of adding additive was genius even though I have always done it this way for years with all my diesels. I don't like fiddling with those little funnels and many additive bottle do not have a long enough neck, so I just pour the additive into the fuel pump nozzle and then insert the nozzle to pump fuel as usual. I thought everyone did this.
Hey don't give all our coveted secrets away, the funnel makers need to make money too!

My pump went out at 135000 miles. I had used Amsoil Cetane boost and Amsoil Injector clean from new. My diesel fuel has come from the same station in NY for the most part. When pump started to fail, I got a code P026C. Low fuel pressure in the comman rail.

135,000 miles? Am I reading that correctly? Wow.

[I've put on 15K miles in three years. At that rate, I have almost 25 years left before zero hour. :)]

Yes you are. That was in July, now its almost 142,000. Had to have pump replaced to clear check engine light in order to pass inspection.

Congrats on not having a catastrophy. Lucky you in many ways. You are just an hours drive from a very good wrench. Eric at South Main Auto repair in Avoca, NY. Meet him on youtube if you don't know him.

How were you able to get a replacement pump? Does FCA have replacements for only "failed pumps"? If that's the case regardless of warranty, time frame and mileage with the "recall" as it stands, we should all be covered in the event of a failure.

No one does this, you are Einstein for the week.

Hate to say it, I was days away from buyiung a 22 Diesel, but the three I was interested in all had 4 big diesel related recalls or repairs, and all three had 3 owners in two years... One was an admitted lemon law buyback. How they expect to get their asking ....

Apparently regional maintenance had a pump. It was an old style pump. It was done under "good faith " policy, no cost to me. Still am subject to the recall. Just have to wait.

That's not abnormal. If you read the truck boards, the CP4 typically only lasts 100,000. Though some have been known to last upwards of 400,000 mi. It's kind of crap shoot. However Bosch only warranties it through 150,000 mi.

It doesn't say it in the article, but the Bosch limited lifetime warranty is for 150,000 mi.

I was using fuel additives every other fill up, the 6 oz AmSoil All-In-One since the first thousand miles. However after reading a couple threads on here I switched over to HotShots because it was more cost-effective, and eventually upped the amount from 2 oz of EDT to 4 oz of HotShots EDT and LX4; 2 oz of each.

This is my setup:

A 4 oz container from China, it was under $10, doesn't leak at all for the last 9,000 mi, and holds up well in direct sunlight in this Texas heat.

I recently purchased this guy from McMaster-Carr for like $20 or something like that. The lines on the back on the side were from me testing it for leaks before putting the good stuff inside. And then the lowest line is from me testing it with the good stuff inside.

It's great because it makes it very much so hassle-free to insert it every fill up.

Also too I've developed a system that works for me that doesn't involve me getting my hands all dirty and having to clean the funnel every fill up.

Rear passenger seat holds all the goodies, it's relatively dust free.

And I've got a microfiber cloth at the bottom to soak up all the juices left over.

I wipe the funnel off whenever I see dust on it, but that's not too often.

Well, the quality of the fuel may have as affect on the HPFP. Just keep in mind, too much air in the system has been known to cause failures.

Here's my update:
so I just pour the additive into the fuel pump nozzle and then insert the nozzle to pump fuel as usual. I thought everyone did this.
I do this now and feel like a genius every time I do it. I'm at 36,000 and am not in a hurry to replace the pump.

This 100% looks like a way to smuggle something into prison.

So I have a 2 and 1/2 gallon container that I pour 1 gallon of hot shots EDT and 1 gallon of Hot shots LX4 into and at that point the 4 oz thermos style container holds the additives that have already been premixed in the larger jug safe until I get to the fuel station.

You can buy the smaller additive bottles, but you get a whole lot more bang for your buck when you buy the larger packaging.

You can get a 12 pack of 4 oz EDT bottles for $72, which comes out to about 48 oz in total.

Or for $18 more you can get 128 oz... Tough choice!

I don't remember if I posted my current setup in this thread or if I posted it in another thread, but I got the 2 and 1/2 gallon jug from McMaster-Car for $21, comes with a little nozzle to pour the mixture straight into my 4 rounds container. I do 2 oz of each, it's pre-mixed (obviously) so 4 oz together. And the bang for your buck goes so much further than buying those individual containers.
