so, my pump was replaced last week while it was in for an unrelated Check Engine Light issue.

previously the same dealer had told me i'd have to schedule an appointment for an "Inspection" to determine if it had already contaminated the fuel system so they would know what parts to order before they did the replacement, but this time they reportedly had the parts in stock and it was handled alongside the other recalls and issues very matter-of-factly.

didn't get any paperwork, Users Manual Addendums, or stickers near the fuel filler as have been reported by some other folks. only sign anything had been done at all was a disturbance of the dirt pattern on the engine cover.

Replying to an old(er) thread...More than happy to start a new thread if moderators ask me to...
Got a call last week from my nearest Jeep dealer (Logan, UT) saying that the parts were in for the Fuel pump replacement/repair for my wife's 2020 Sahara.
Question....Should I? or Shouldn't I? Her Jeep just passed 80k miles with no issues (*although the dreaded 'death wobble'/shimmy has begun over bumps at higher speeds - that's a different thread!).
Are the redesigned pumps more reliable? I am concerned about how competent the techs are at performing this recall. Should I take my chances and continue with the current pump until it 'might' fail before 150k miles?

All I can tell you is many of the pumps fail...many of the replacement pumps fail...No one has ever published any reliable factory information explaining IF anything was changed, upgraded, hardened, or improved on what everyone on here insists on calling the "new pump". There isn't one. My own research says it is just a replacement fuel pump as original, mandated by NHTSA recall for safety hazard if it fails in traffic. If they find metal parts, debris, etc. in the pump or fuel filter they are supposed to remove the fuel tank and do a complete fuel system rebuild. Those parts, debris, metal shavings are going SOMEWHERE as there is no containment or disaster bypass kit on these Bosch CP4 HPFP fuel pumps. The first time I had a stall ( three actually trying to get home from elk hunting) and codes for HPFP, Low pressure fuel warning also and CEL's, I parked it in October of 2023, and since I could not get it repaired locally, Jeep and Stellantis stalling and lacking parts, I bought a CPX rebuilt/reengineeered Bosch pump from RCD (River City Diesel) and replaced it myself, 18,000 miles ago and no worries. If you look these up , you will probably understand what needs to happen to make these pumps reliable. Maybe you will want to do that too if yours fails. I would say, since you have clean 80,000miles so far... (like my grandpa, if it ain't broke don't fix it). but the failure has very real chance of taking out injectors, entire fuel system, and engine.

i haven't heard of a replacement pump failing yet.
can you point to any info on this happening?

obviously i chose to let them replace mine under the recall. the failure of my original pump was a pretty clear indicator of how abruptly they can fail. i'm just lucky i was in a parking lot when mine shut down without any warnings or indications.

One posted today by "Blain" on the Wrangler forum. I believe you also have commented on Adventure-JTRD's adventures. I also pay attention to the Gladiator and Ram 1500 Ecodiesel blogs, and the failures are legion 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But you can do your own research and keep your own counsel. Again, if you or anyone has any evidence and specifics about ANY changes or improvements to the Bosch CP4.2 HPFP you all like to call the "new HPFP"...I am all ears. So far, it has just been musical chairs with the part numbers and damn little factual responses. But I have posted all of this several times. They fail...a lot...enough for NHTSA to issue multiple recalls across all of the diesels that use them and Jeep's in particular is about SAFETY, not just reliability. I don't believe they care if the problem gets fixed because they want to see diesels on the road, rather their actions on our behalf have been half hearted at best.

jeeze, mate; was just asking for you to share some info if you've got it, just as you are asking people to share info if they've got it.
again, like you, i'd also love to see an accounting of any actual differences in the original CP4.2s vs the replacements.

not clear *which* "Wrangler forum" you're speaking of. (a quick search shows more than 1.) the first one i checked returns no results for a Username of "Blain".
not clear who/what "Adventure-JTRD" is; i don't see them listed as a member here, so that's also unclear what you're talking about.

if you're familiar with reports of failures of replacement pumps, would it be too much trouble for you to share some links? i'm certain i haven't seen all of your posts (i see you've started no threads).
