Ok I pulled the trigger and joined the rotopax club 😵💫……also grabbed up a trail rax mount for the hard top…why? Bc I’m tired of paying $7-$11 a gallon every time I drive into stupid 🍑 California for trails, see the ocean, buy jeep stuff…etc. so now I got 10 extra gallons of freedom to escape those commie gas stations…and don’t need to deal with beads of sweat on those long trails and the closet gas stations over 100 miles away (cough cough northern Nevada)

Jose, wondering what your experience has been with your Rotopax. I'm pondering similar as I prepare for an extended visit to remote Arizona. I've read a lot about them leaking. I'm planning to store them on the roof, flat and worried about them dripping and expanding in the heat. Any additional input after your experience?

I have a Giant Loop Armadillo bag for fuel. I use a gallon bag on my motorcycle. I bounced it all around and many a trail without any leak. One of my boys also has the 1 gallon version and we did the White Rim with them.

Easy to tie down with all the webbing on them.
They come in 1, 2,3 and 5 gallon sizes and come with a pour spout. Best part is once your done with it you can roll it up to save space.

I have an armadillo bag, too, and have never had any issues with it. But, there are horror videos of them leaking on YouTube. All the ones I've seen is people strapping them on "in case they run out of gas" and left in the sunny summer heat for days on end. When I use it, I empty it as quickly as possible (i.e. after I've driven 100 miles to fill the tank back up). Hard to leak when it's empty. @jbcrane perhaps you'll want to do that with the rotopax, too.

So, $800-ish? You must be driving into CA a lot.

I'm probably worse, I'm a few hundred into this setup that I made the bracket to haul a 4 gal pax, but the mounts, can and special machined aluminum cap was hundreds and many hours of my life I'll never get back.

So my experience with them so far in this 115 degree heat has been awesome. Yes you have to burp them (unscrew the cap to release vapors since the caps and containers don’t self vent)…I put zip lock bags over my caps and use rubber bands or bungees to hold in place. Now eventually I’ll end up buying another 4 gallon to place were my (2) 3 gallons are then move those (2) 3 gallon jugs to my trailer. But going out to Death Valley and the phoenix area have been better….

now there’s this…

i guess there’s a softer material style rotopax jug idk if it’s a rotopax model or some temu stuff from wish..but those buckle and what not(think of a gallon jug of water or milk at wal mart…things all warped and smashed in)….

the ones I have are retarded strong…can run these things over and they’ll just laugh at me like after the hulk mopped Loki in that avengers movie “PUNY GOD”.

I go out to California to do the trails in big bear lake….borrego springs near San Diego…rubicon…go camping out in the redwoods….go through California to go up to northern nevada(bc gas stations start to become a distant memory doing that 8 hour drive up north directly through Nevada) to gerlach for the high rock canyon trails….plus Genright off-road, accutune, king shocks, metal cloak suspension,Currie axles, rockjock are all there

Looks great!

No intentions to crap on the OP’s thread but here is my perspective... I have a TrailMax mount for both Rotopex cans and a mount for traction boards. I have since gone a different direction for several reasons. Probably should sell it but as soon as you get rid of something… yep, you want it.

Issues:

  • The Rotopex are slow to empty and awkward to handle.
  • I didn’t like stuff hanging on the sides of my Jeep. I offroad mostly in the PNW and getting hooked on brush wasn’t good.
  • Periphery vision to the rear sides was eliminated.
  • It is an expensive setup especially if you want fuel and traction boards mount options.

Did the Rubicon Trail with the 4gal setup…

That said, it is an extremely nice product and top quality, but it didn’t end up working for me. I happened on a deal for rear bumper/tire carrier and more including a Jerry can setup. Much more functional than sexy I guess.

I am adding an American Adventure Labs spare tire rack that I can carry fuel on. The 12-gallon low profile tank on the link would fit the rack perfectly. But I can't see on the Amazon website how you get the fuel out of the tank. It says that it accepts standard NPT fittings. Is there a threaded hole in the bottom or low on the side of this tank that can't be seen? Or does the fitting thread into the vent part on top of the tank? It would be nice to have a coiled-up hose next to the tank on the rack, and all I would have to do is put the end in my fuel tank and let it drain into the Jeeps tank without having to even remove the 12-gallon tank.

Has anyone used this tank? How well is it working?

I have the rock slide engineering EZ rack. I haven’t bought the rotopax yet because I haven’t decided what size would be best for the 392 tire carrier and mopar tailgate reinforcement since I haven’t gotten an HD tire carrier yet.

I blacked out the Ai13 nozzle cap and vent because I don‘t like polished bling. Rotopax plus Ai13 equals stupid amounts of money but no leaks.

Yeah, I was thinking about making the a13 cap black and inconspicuous to prevent theft or vandalism. I may toss it in a friend's regular shipments for black anodize

I use the spare tire method of carrying 2- 3 gallon rotopaks with 2.5 gallons in each and not had a problem. My dream setup would be a Titan tanks 10 gallon mounted inside spare wheel space. It works with stock or Terra flex spare tire carrier but will not work with the Mopar XR tire carrier. I would have to convert to the terra flex mount at over $1000. AEV makes one for their bumper/spare tire mount. My son has one on his diesel Jeep and it has worked well. For now I will stick with this setup. I run a cable lock through both cans and onto the spare wheel fro security.

That was my thinking. I actually mentioned having black as an option to the owners but I felt like the billet was part of their brand recognition they didn’t want to change. Black anodize would be nice.
