Hello all,

So I took my Jeep for its 38,000km service, oil change, tire rotation, piece of mind inspection.

The service advisor asked if there was anything that needed to be checked, I advised that there was a whine when accelerating.

Turns out my idler pulley and some other parts were defective. New parts were ordered, it’s all under warranty.

I take my Jeep home for the weekend and my vehicle starts stalling while idling .. this has never happened before and happened twice on the same trip to do errands.

I then don’t drive the Jeep for safety reasons until the parts come in. I drive to the dealer and it stalls once going there.

The dealer calls me saying they ordered the wrong parts and the new parts will be here the following week.

I told them to keep the Jeep at the dealer because I don’t think a stalling vehicle is a safe vehicle to drive.

I asked for a loaner or rental, the service advisor initially said they didn’t have any loaners, but I persisted and after a few days they said they have my name in for a loaner .. again, don’t know when I will actually get a loaner.

how do people deal with this? I have to work, I have a wedding to attend this weekend, I am also moving houses next week, and have errands to do.

I’ve been firm but nice with the dealer. I just feel like they don’t care.

Update - Just received a notification that a loaner is expected to be available Monday.
Not having parts available, is becoming more typical ongoing. Then the factory wonders why their sales are declining, partially because of poor after sale Service. But lets not forget their new vehicle high prices...

The pricing might imply otherwise, but this isn't a high end brand that coddles its customers. Hell, Mercedes sends someone to our house to swap out cars when my wife's needs servicing. This isn't that.
You’re right, BUT, starting several years ago I ask dealers to put, IN WRITING, in my sales contract that a loaner WILL be provided whenever the car is in for anything more than an oil change. No loaner guarantee, no sale. I’ve walked from a couple deals over this issue, but I also get loaners when I’m in for service. I live in the country a good way out of town-being stuck w/o wheels isn’t an option.

Just an update.

I received a loaner, however, it took some persistence and I got it after a week my vehicle went to the shop.

Initially the wrong parts were ordered.

The correct parts were then ordered from across the country, and I got an estimated ETA of part delivery of 1 week, plus the time to install.

Again, this is for a warranty repair.

According to that Enterprise location we were only allowed to choose a Stellantis product similar in size to our own vehicle otherwise it wouldn't be covered.
Related:

Thus far, every loaner vehicle that my Honda dealer has provided to me (which hasn't been that many, making this stat easy to remember) has been a current model year vehicle, fresh off the truck and oftentimes in the highest trim.

I tend to purchase lower tier trims and keep my vehicles for a good number of years. Having a loaner that is not only new, but also chockablock with technology and/or functioning and/or performance that I'm not used to, makes for an enjoyable and slightly surreal experience.

Well, usually enjoyable. Sometimes, the takeaway is determining what I don't like or want in my next vehicle. Touchscreens, especially those with integrated HVAC controls and endless "menus", occupy the #1 spot on my Keep That Crap Out of My Vehicle list. I'll concede that this is a losing battle.

People that own jeeps need to have other reliable transportation. It's a jeep thing.

I'm sure it's done on purpose to entice you to trade "up" so to speak.

Oh, absolutely.

It's not a battle they're going to easily win, though, if at all.

Just yesterday, I was shooting the breeze with the owner of the company who just sealed our driveway...meaning my precious Jeep has to be parked on the street, with the proles, until the oil-based sealant cures. Anyway, we agreed that as we get older and remember what things "used to cost", the collateral effect is that we also become less willing to pay today's prices, at least in some instances.

To bring this back around to auto buying: If I happily got by all these years with modest vehicle trims, having the keys for a high zoot this-or-that for a day or three isn't going to easily sway my thinking on the matter. 😎

I’m just 34 and even for myself I’m having a hard time with justifying these prices. I’m looking at buying out my lease but I’m very uncomfortable with the price tag.

I was looking at VW GTI’s as I’ve always been a fan. Owned a 2011 for a while that I paid $24,500 for brand spanking new. I was in shock to see it’ll cost me $40k to get into a brand new one. Some of this can’t just be inflation, I think my generation is more foolish with their money that they’ve made these prices a reality for companies.

I've owned 3 VWs: two Golfs, and a Jetta. I'm a slow learner.

--------------

For peace of mind, I try to limit comparing the prices I paid years ago -- or indeed, not so many years ago -- to what it'd cost me today for the same or similar thing. I'm not uninformed about inflation, interest rate trends and the like, but it's the other, more insidious forces in play that are frustrating to contemplate. So, I let others worry about it, and keep my powder dry.

I'm often occupied, by many things, often at the same time
I'm disappointed in the MSRP of new vehicles, then I remember, everyone wants to make a six-figure salary and drive a BMW/Mercedes. So, if I want my local used car salesman to be able to show his lady a good time on a Saturday night, I gotta pay what they're asking, ammirite?

ETA: I asked my son how it was going. He said he ran out of tortillas. He opened a can of refried beans on Friday and by Monday he was out of tortillas. I think he's going to retire early, a multi-millionaire. Maybe a few more people need to open a can of refried beans and drive a 10+ year old car.

I'm really surprised any sales team would sign onto this. Sales usually has zero say as to what happens in service. I suspect the GM gets involved every time you bring your vehicle into service to make it happen.

Pretty sick though, that's awesome

Buying out a 4XE lease is very risky. Strongly suggest against it.

Yes! This is pretty normal outside of the Stellantis world. Its what I considered normal before buying my first FCA vehicle. With all the GM dealers i've dealt with, they pretty much assume you need a loaner if you are dropping off your vehicle and not waiting for it. I actually had my dealer put a note in my profile that I don't need a loaner unless my vehicle will be in for an extended stay. Otherwise they would just automatically set one up for me. And they always provide something fully-loaded and more expensive than what i'm having serviced, cause they want me to trade up.

The GM always gets involved in the sale-typically with “I’m sorry but we can’t do that“ or “our insurance won’t allow us to do that”. I simply go, Ok, and start to leave. They will usually be like “hold on, maybe we can work something out”. One place doesn’t give me a loaner BUT they always have a rental waiting for me. You have to be hard nosed, but to me it’s worth it. (I often get “don’t tell anybody about this because we can’t do it for everybody”. Cool with me-I don’t care how you treat other customers, just how I’m treated.

You don't care that the people working on your car hate you?
