I just return from a trip to Moab. The high daily temps in Moab were 98 - 106 degrees F. On the return trip home I set the cruise on about 85 mph. Speed limit on I-70 is 80 mph. When I exited the highway for fuel, there was a rubbing noise near the left front wheel.
Turns out the HDPE splash shield is very flimsy and is not mounted securely. The dynamic air pressure from the engine compartment along with the high temperature air pushed the splash shield out into the tire. About 20% of the splash shield was ground away.
New splash shield: $94, plus I have to address the root cause.
Anyone have this happen to them?
