Anyone else noticing this on their JL? Lately I've noticed a squeaking noise when driving away from my driveway onto the street or from a parking spot at low speed. Sounds almost like it's coming from the the front wheels area -- sort of a 'rotating' squeak which changes with speed. It seems to go away when driving normal road speed. After some driving the noise seems to go away. I can almost visualize the axle or wheel hub needing lubrication (hope that makes sense, as I'm not too savvy with automotive mechanics :) ).

A couple of my own 'theories':

- A few days ago I was having a bit of fun and drove through a decent-sized puddle (you know, like in that Jeep ad?). Could water have made its way into the wheel hub causing the squeaking?

- Recently road salt has started being put down on our icy roads and I know those can cause squeaking in brakes too, at least in my own experience with previous cars(not sure if that's of any relevance)

Wondering if anyone has come across this noise, has any ideas on what it might be and what could cause it. Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Sorry for not mentioning that this is all a stock configuration -- no lifts, shocks, custom wheels, etc.

Hey iflyimpilot,

If this continues to happen, we'd recommend mentioning it to your certified dealership the next time you're in service. They should be able to inspect your vehicle to determine the cause of the concern. If you need any assistance, please PM us!

I had a similar squeak. A perfectly-sized rock was wedged in between the brake caliper and the rim. A few stabs with a long screwdriver solved it :)

Does it go away after a period of driving ?These wranglers make all kinds of noise when they are cold.... Assuming it could be a culprit by how you explained road salt and such

Hey,

I have this happening now too. Did you find a fix for it? It's so annoying!

Thought I would revive this thread. I have a similar squeaking on my new (500 miles) rubicon. At 250 miles, I installed the AEV 2in spacer lift and new wheels with 37ā€ tires. Had no issues at all for the next 250 miles but just yesterday I noticed this squeaking nose coming from the front driver side wheel. Seems to get faster as I speed up so Iā€™m guessing it has something to do with the wheel/hub. At first I thought it was squeaky suspension but bumps or me jumping up and down on the bumper dont recreate the noise. I took some videos while driving so you can hear the sound. Sorry for the loud background noise.
Any thoughts?

Videos donā€™t work for me.

I have noticed squeaking when itā€™s wet out at low speeds when coming to a stop or when starting from a stop. Itā€™s really annoying.

I just put on a clayton 3" lift along with 37s and have a squeeking noise from the passenger front corner. It may be a coincidence but the noise did not start until I out the 37s on. Problem is that it comes and goes. I recently took it to a garage bear me that works on jeeps and sure enough on the way there no noise and while it was there no noise. Noise is back today and could be gone tomorrow. I also would be interested if anyone else has/had this problem.

My 2019 Rubicon is in the shop as I type this. A rotational squeak is on the list of things they are looking at. Supposed to be done tomorrow, I'll let you know what they find.

Dealer called and said they have no idea what it was, but he said he cant hear it anymore. Picked it up today, they say not making the noise anymore, but they did nothing to fix it. Usually happens to me first thing in the morning, so I'll check it tomorrow.

I have the same exact thing happening to my 21 sahara. Asi am backing down the driveway and slightly turning the wheel to the left to back into the street. I get that sound you described as well as as a slight clanking sound. But once i start driving the sound disappears. I dont get the sound all day its more when the jeep moves after sitting and possibly settling a while. Its like the initial movement is what brings out the noise. I'll have them check it at my first service.

Problem solved and it had nothing to do with lift or tires just happened to start after the tires were put on. Nonetheless, I had installed Rusty rock rails which attach to the frame and not the body as such had to remove frame screws to attach the rails. The front screw had gotten a bit loose causing the squeaking noise but after tightening the noise was gone.
