If you have an aftermarket front bumper, did you install a front skid plate? Is it necessary for mild off-road use?

If you have a Rubicon I would consider one to protect the electronic sway bar disconnect. If you don't have a Rubicon I wouldn't worry about it. The only advantage you would have with it is maybe .0001 mpg better fuel mileage.

I have an aftermarket steel stubby bumper on my Rubicon, and it definitely needs a skid plate under it. My swaybar disconnect is the primary exposed point of impact now, and it doesn't look like it's a terribly sturdy device. I don't know how much those cost to replace but I'm betting it's more expensive than a skid plate.

Unfortunately my skid plate is backordered so I guess I just have to be careful for a while.

Edit: I just googled it and it looks like the swaybar disconnect is like $2000. Skid plates are about $200. So ya, if you have a Rubicon I'd say definitely get a skid plate. It's kind of nuts that it's only covered by a flimsy plastic skid from the factory.

did't put one on our Willys, I like the looks a lot better without it.

Hopefully most people don't use looks to determine if they're putting skids on or not. But I guess there are lots of people that mod their rig just for looks.

I doubt my wife will be smashing rocks in her jeep.

Which implies that upgrades to her Jeep are for looks only. Yeah, those rigs obviously exist, but they're usually not discussed in posts about skid plates.

I'm guilty, looks were my 2nd concern. If the skid plate is necessary, I'll add one but if it's not I'm kind of on the fence.

I ran without one for years on my stock steel bumper. No issues at all but I didn’t plan on putting the center of my Jeep on a rock. I did do a sway bar flip with my new bumper but ended up rotating it back to its original location so I could push my bumper inwards 1.5”. I have a no limits disconnect so I’m not concerned.

Hey y'all.
I am going to be installing this bumper, I can't tell really if it covers the sway bar stuff or not: https://www.extremeterrain.com/redr...pping&gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds#customer_q_and_a

I have a stock plate there I can leave from the factory, is that right? I have the stock plastic bumpers on my JLUR XR. Looks like this:

Jeep Wrangler JL Front bumper skid plate ? 1703922039127

Or would y'all go with something more robust? I don't plan on doing anything crazy at first.
