Sorry but these threads get way under my skin... If you need a vehicle that has to tell you what's in front of you, help you park, or apply the brakes for you; then you probably do not belong behind the wheel. People that tout this technology are like Prius owners, I just want to slap the piss out of them. Learn to drive and take a defensive driver's course. You will save money on your car insurance too.

Sorry for the rant but OMG I hate this drive-for-me technology crap!

I'm wondering if there is a calibration that can be performed to reduce the false alarms.
The only thing I know we can do is to decrease the distance. It has a "far" "middle", and "near" that can be changed.
Yes, I know about this.. I remember seeing somewhere that there is a sensor "aiming" or calibration required after a windshield replacement. As I said in a prior post on another thread, my brakes engaged HARD in highway traffic (about 20mph) for no reason I could detect. If someone was too close behind me, it could have been very bad.. I disabled active braking immediately and won't turn it back on until I get some answers. I had two Subarus with Eyesight and they were flawless..

Yeah, I don't want all of those gadgets, a Wrangler isn't meant to be a luxury car, IMO.

Last edit: I think if you have FCW and it's giving you false positives you really should let Jeep know so they can find out what's causing them on your vehicle. I think they did a great job sticking the sensor where they did. I think they could've done better having 2 sensors instead of 1, but it is what it is. Ultimately the goal of a system like this is to have one more card in your deck to help you get home safely. Remember that even when you're doing everything right, shit can and does happen, so it's nice to have a little help.

I am a little alarmed by how salty people get on here. I've always been under the impression that Jeeping is a fun and friendly hobby and Jeep drivers are some of the nicest out there so it's kinda weird to see everyone going at each other's throats in various threads lol.

I agree, although I don’t know what a dealer could do about it. Mine has never gone off when it shouldn’t have. I’d suggest RainX or any other water-beading product to anyone having issues in rain (actually anyone in general).

Everyone thinks they’re the best driver in the world until something goes awry. There are other people on the road that do dumb shit. If you think your reaction time is better than a computer's, well then…

I can’t imagine how people who get this riled up over choices someone else makes get through life without blowing arteries by the dozen. Why would you care that other people choose to drive a vehicle that is safer than theirs or gets better mileage?

I was thinking about the rain and debris across the window too - I’m sure that keeping your window clean helps, but I don’t think it’s really an issue. If a fat bug or bird was about to hit the window I could see it maybe. But not really.

I’m guessing the sensor is a laser depth sensor kinda like some phones and cameras have for focusing. I imagine they can calibrate it for distance and ignore anything closer than the bumper is hehe. If it was purely visible optics I imagine it would detect an object growing and not coming across from the side. That’s all just guessing though.

You are right that the dealer probably wouldn’t know what to do about it - although they might try to replace the sensor, and that might not be a bad idea. Yours could possibly be defective somehow. OTOH it could be communicated back to the team that works on the system

I don’t depend on the technology but it’s always good to have any extra set of eyes don’t miss a beat.

Did some playing around with the setting. First I had in the near setting and it hasn’t gone off in 3 days. I then switch it to the medium setting and headed into manhattan NY ( it had a field day) with all the cabbies making turns out of no where and just pulling in front of you stopping short (wow) and me driving like a nut but the break never kick in bc I was able to get out of the way fast. I do believe that the sensor being up higher reads a lot more then when it’s lower like on my wife grand Cherokee. I don’t think there is a malfunction with it it just reads more being higher up.

This was me today, for those wondering what the front collision avoidance sounds like and what conditions a false event may be fired. In a few short seconds, it went off three times. This weekend, I had about 8 hours of driving and I think it was otherwise quiet (so don't take this video to be an illustration of frequency).

Roof on or topless? I think that when my roof is open (I have sky power top), it happens more frequently and without any reasons - similar to your video.

@JeepCares Why does this happen? It's 2019; pre-crash safety systems are quite reliable in other vehicles. Does Jeep plan any software upgrade or solutions?
