Are there any out there with superior coating? I can get a sense for the level of protection and appearance by looking at them, but any that last longer than others?

At least you probably don't have to worry about rust living in Arizona ;)

Bare aluminum is unbeatable. If you have a 4 door you have a few options. GenRight would be my first choice. Bare, just like they sell them.

best coating is a rattle can and keeping up on touching it up

rock rails are intended to be dragged and slid over rocks and no coating can really handle that abuse, but if you plan on just driving down the road they are a rock magnet and again any coating will just chip away and will need to be retouched
