Fixing paint

My brother in law dropped the hardtop weight on the side of the jeep and it looks like it scrapped off the clear coat. When I apply water, the white powder goes away but comes back in like 3 seconds. Would the products in the photos resolve this?

Good, you should be okay then.

Hopefully you can pull it out by hand.

Maybe someone with experience can clarify on how real the Turtle spray stuff is as far as ceramic coatings go.

If you start with the compound, you'll normally want to step to a polish prior to either a wax or synthetic coating. If it's actually a ceramic coating, you will want the paint free of even small scratches left by the compound prior to coating it.

The ceramic coating is a really nice product. It is not a high grade professional one but it is quick and does last quite a long time. It is used as a "wax" and wont help to remove those. I've used it on all my vehicles including my RV.

The compound will help remove the stuff on top of the paint. You can put it on a microfiber towel and just go to work. Just remember that compounds are removing stuff, including things you might want to leave behind. I've used that one and it is pretty good and gentle enough. I'd try it and see what happens.

Just grab a product like Quixx which is a 3 part kit. Since you can't feel the scratch you can skip the wet sand and just do repair then polish. You could try the compound you have first and then grab a bottle of finish polish. When you are done with that you can hit the area with the ceramic. Should look good as new

the " powder is fiberglass from the hard top. the scratches look like they may buff out. I always start with clay bar to remove the top lay in the areas wax. then a good compound buff fallowed up with polish and then get a good gel ceramic coat not the spray. Typically the spray on waxes are for between big hand wax coatings. I use the turtle wax Ice spray wax on windows and paint every wash.

note looks more like the fiber glass imbedded into the clear coat. should come out pretty easy.

I would start with maguires scratch x 2.0. Won’t hurt anything and has done a great job getting surface damage out. I also used the maguires polishing compound when my wife slid her minivan against our garage door. Made it look nearly new.
