I have been lurking on this forum for a while. I have looked at all the price sheets, and have run through the configurator a thousand times, lol.

I am in the same boat as a lot of people where I am leaning towards a Rubicon because a Sport S or Sahara priced out the way I want is close enough in price to a Rubicon with similar options where the extra capability of the Rubi is too tempting.

I have also looked for used JK Rubicons but can't find much. Car Max has a few Rubicons in my area that are loaded in the mid 30s but they are upwards of 4 year old models. I feel like if I really wanted a JK I would have gotten one and the prices are still high for four year old vehicles with 30-80k miles.

Here's the build I want for a new JL:

3.6 Engine
Manual Trans
Crystal Granite paint
Black 3pc Hard top
Cold Weather Group (I live in New England)
All season floor mats

That's it!

I had gone to the closest local dealer last weekend and test drove a Sahara and loved it. The wife loved it too and gave me the green light but I really want a more offroad capable vehicle as I have been wanting to get into Overlanding and weekend offroading.

The salesman has been sending me info on Saharas they have that meet some of my wants, but I decided to reach out to him today and basically told him I wanted to order a Rubicon as above for 5% under invoice. He texted back and didn't say no right off but said he would look into it and get back to me. So now I am nervously waiting for him to respond!

I think you mean JL - You’ll regret not getting LEDs IMHO.

GOOD LUCK

LED won't melt snow, and you can always add lights later. I drove past a YJ about two months ago, its headlights were a dull yellow, but those foglights, they could be seen from outer space.

Yes, I meant JL!

Snow issue is partly why I didn't choose the LEDs. The other part is that I have a budget to keep and those are pricey. I will investigate replacements later, I know you can get some with heated elements, though I imagine those are pricey as well.

A bit of a trek for you, but Mark Fitzpatrick will happily give you 5% off, no games, at Fitzpatrick Jeep in Ansonia, CT (@FitzSince1923). He's a straight shooter and very responsive. If your guy gives you guff, give Mark a buzz. Should be a nice drive home, anyway.

I agree abut the LEDs. I also will add that the 8.4" w/Alpine, proximity entry locks are well worth the cost. They all are options you use multiple times a day, every day.

Another option to consider... painted fenders. I had two Wranglers in the past. A 2002 and a 2012. Both were red with black (non-painted fenders. What I noticed, at least in the hot Texas sun, was that these black plastic fenders started to look weathered pretty quickly unless I put some Armor All or similar product on them weekly. They do look nice, are more forgiving with regards to scratches, but will look faded rather quickly without some TLC.

Skip used, there are still a few brand new 2018 JK Rubicon's floating around for mid $30's

Here is one for $35k

Yeah, so if I added LEDs, 8.4" entertainment, and painted fenders the JLUR would start to creep well out of my price range. I understand everyone's reasoning for suggesting those things but for me I would rather have the capability of the JLUR and sacrifice some of the luxury items. If I had 50 grand to spend, I would load it up, no doubt. I may consider the keyless entry though. It's only $495 and does seem like it would be a convenience I would appreciate daily.

Yeah, a new leftover JKUR is something I would consider depending if I can find one close to me at that price.
