Hate to add unwarranted bashing of apple here but I am a lifelong android user and just had to switch to an iPhone for work about 3 weeks ago. Apple CarPlay SUCKS compared to the user friendliness of Android Auto, so the comment someone made about throwing the iPhone out the window seems like a good idea.

I have the 8.4 and I am playing iTunes music downloaded to my phone. I can use Siri, but anything with a list is greyed out while in motion. And YES, this is an FCA setting for CarPlay. Not all manufacturers do this.
I was wondering this exact same thing, so glad you brought this up.

The system is working as designed. You should not be screwing around with your phone while driving. You shouldn't be screwing around with your radio that much when driving, either.
And if that's the way it's supposed to work, fine, so they're not going to let you change playlists on downloaded music and yet you can mess around all you want with the radio stations. Way to go.

I’m using Apple Music in Apple CarPlay. I can’t even see an option to pull up my playlist.

Yeah I used to use Android too until I got tired of my phone being worthless after a year. Since I switch to Apple I can run a device for 5+ years. My iPad is going on 7 and finally needs a battery.

If you hold down the voice control button on your steering wheel for a second, siri will activate. You can use that to change playlists and stuff. :) I liked the feature so much that I ended up getting the AT&T hotspot subscription so I can use it to my heart's content lol.

As for the other stuff, I'm not really a fan of messing with my radio when driving, period. The roads out here aren't terrible, but I find piloting a Jeep requires a decent amount of attention, and then there's LA traffic to give you plenty of surprises too. XD

I just try not to screw around with too many electronic items while driving. Way too many distractions as it is.

I'm the reverse. I tried Android as a lower cost option to iPhone and it sucked so bad went back to Apple.

I had hoped that maybe it was a simple setting that someone could assist me with, but you guys really taught me a lesson. I learned that posting here isn't worth my time. So I'll just keep enjoying my Jeep and try to avoid interacting with some of you.
Yes, "real jeepers" just learn to just deal with it or buy a "mod"
that someone in China makes to try and solve what they don't like.
I might suggest changing your avatar to appear to be a fetching young lady. You'll get lots of help.

Really...i still have an S6 that still works fine. My daughter had to upgrade her I6 because apple won't allow her to download IOS13. I do agree the ipads are made well.

I’m having a similar problem. CarPlay only shows five or six of my downloaded albums (shown in the playlist section) and NONE of my actual playlists, AND they’re all greyed out (even while parked).

Also holding the talk button down will allow me to give voice commands, but none for music or text messages. WHY?!

I'm really enjoying my new Jeep, but I have one issue with the Uconnect CarPlay set up. My Jeep has no issues recognizing my phone and initiating CarPlay, which I know has been reported as an issue by others. My complaint is regarding the restrictions on CarPlay while driving. When the Jeep is in motion, all the playlists and artists are greyed out -- meaning I can't change the music until I come to a stop. I understand that ultimately the purpose of this is to reduce driver distractions. But in actuality @JeepCares, all you have done is create a situation where I end up picking up my phone so I can change the music -- completely defeating the purpose of your menu lockouts and your intent to reduce distractions. It would be much easier -- and safer -- if I had the ability to change them from Uconnect. And this is evidently a manufacturer set-up, not an Apple setting, because I can see of all my music while driving our BMW.

Hi,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I'm sorry this is happening. Can you please confirm what platform you're trying to pull your music in from? Is it Apple Music, or Spotify?

I figured it out, it was ridiculously easy. My carplay isn’t greyed out while I’m driving. I can access my playlists, artists, etc...
