falcon steering stabilizer

I have a stock 2018 JLU with stock 17 in rims and non-lifted. Have 8,000 miles on the odometer and started experiencing something similar to death wobble but on a lower scale, meaning if there are minor pot holes on both sides of the road I get an uncontrollable shake from side to side until I pass the bumps. My jeep originally drove much smoother and I didn't feel those bumps as much as I do now. My question is I ordered the teraflex falcon steering stabilizer 2.2 adjustable but they also make a non adjustable, should I have ordered the non adjustable since my vehicle will not be lifted?

Either one will be fine. I used the non-adjustable one on my JK and it was fine. Sometimes having the adjustable options can drive you nuts as you constantly convince and unconvince yourself about the right setting.

Though most will caution that a steering stabilizer is a band-aid.

I have the adjustable nexus on my Rubicon and it is so much better than the stock. I Purchased the adjustable one because my grand Cherokee Overland has the adjustable steering on it with three settings and I really liked it so I am trying to mimic the same set up with my Rubicon. It works great!

if what you are describing is accurate... you need to get your front end looked at. and your tires balanced. a stabilizer only masks the underlying issue. Trackbar/balljoints, tire way out of balance or tread separation, etc. dont waste money on a steering stabilizer, bring it to your dealer and get it looked at. should be under warranty. or bring it to your favorite shop. I know it's close to thanksgiving, but dont be a turkey.

Take your factory stabilizer off and go for a drive - if you still have the shimmy it isn’t in the stabilizer - if it goes away it may be stabilizer related. There is a TSB out for a shimmy condition being caused by the stabilizer but you can save some money just be removing it and see how it drives.

ok like I said its not horribly bad but it is there. I installed jl sahara shocks (fronts only) but it made it worse.

Steering stabilizer is not a solution to actual death wobble. You need to have a qualified tech properly diagnose what the issue is.

You may have one of the bad steering stabilizers that some are reporting after 7K miles in a the other steering and wobble threads. Check your date code. Could be something else in the steering system that an aftermarket stabilizer would mask it, but if you have one in the bad date code range, it could be isolated to the stabilizer.

Many have said aftermarket steering stabilizers steer way better than the OEM version, so might want to proceed with the Falcon steering stabilizer even if your OEM steering stabilizer date code is on the list. But would be interesting to know if your OEM stabilizer is on the "bad list". If it is, then probably don't need to worry if the Fox version would be masking another issue.

I just installed my Nexus 2.2. It is awesome! Long windy highways, clicked it to firm and it holds perfect. Off-roading, click to soft and it is amazing!

I have death wobble in my JL. If you hit a bump just the right way the steering will shake volently back and forth until the vehicle is slowed down. Dealership says the suspension is fine and that its due to having the factory tires with the mopar lift. (Something about them being narrower?) I'm not convinced as other people are having this same issue in stock JLs.

As far as the factory stabilizer, I have a very early release JL that I bought in February but the stabilizer has a 300+ number on it so I'm not sure how that works. I'll rotate the tires again gor the heck of it and see if anything changes... If that doesn't work then I'm all ears.

Did the dealership remove the cotter pins and check the torque on the suspension and steering components or did they visually eye-ball the torque with their x-ray vision? You can tell by checking the cotter pins in the 4 front ball joints. If they look perfectly bent from the factory, then they used their x-ray vision. If the cotter pins looked mangled like someone manually removed them and put them back in, then they properly checked torque.

I wanted to thank jeremyjeep for the info about the bad factory steering stabilizers. Mine was no. X151 it's already been replaced.
The only issue with my steering was when I hit uneven or pot holes in our great Michigan roads the wheel would give me feedback.
What I mean by that is when I hit a pot hole the wheel would shake back and forth in my hand. I got a Falcon 2.2 adjustable stabilizer.
All I can say is it took 95% of the shake out of my wheel when I hit something. You can feel the different settings, I'm using medium most of the time. I also replaced the stock track bar with a JKS Heavy Duty unit. I will also be replacing the lower control arms with heavy duty (non adjustable) fixed units. Tire pressure is right at 38. It drives really great now. My ball joints were also barley (the bottom ones) hand tight, I tightened all 4 of them the first week I had it. I also went thru all the steering components and made sure they were tight. This was my experience I just wanted to share it with everyone. This is a great forum I have learned lot. Yeah I was crawling around under my Jeep looking at all the welds to! So far no recalls.

Lift a Jeep and you will always have to modify other mechanics of the rig. I.e. stabilizer, caster, etc...

Jeep comes perfectly engineered from factory, change any of that and you need to adjust accordingly.

Dont let anybody tell you otherwise

So glad I bought the Falcon Adj Shock it solved all my Death Wobble problems. Highly recommend with lift big tires
