They both will be about the same. My dad has the Teraflex and likes it well enough and has never complained about rattles. I will say the Cavfab seems to close much better than any other one Ive seen out there though with zero sag at the hinges.
Bummer. I was just about to order and called the Autobody shop as there dealing with the insurance on this matter as I was rear ended so it's covered by the other driver's insurance. But she said since it comes unpainted and they do not have a powder coater at their shop it's not a product that I would be able to get as it would be a huge runaround at that point.

It depends on if there's other damage/factors at play, but you could have the insurance company pay you out the parts cost plus labor for the bumper, then do the powdercoat and install after the fact. JL rear bumpers aren't difficult to install. You could realistically do it in your driveway with a friend helping in an afternoon.

I mean the body shop can 100% paint the part in their booth, especially if you want it body colored.

I painted mine myself in my driveway with some Steel-It spray paint and its held up just fine.

I think with horrible Illinois weather Powder coat would hold up the best or Would Black hold up I don't know lol
There is more damage so that's why it all unfortunately has to be done at the autobody shop.

I am in the process of finding a new bumper and/or tire carrier and trying to find a good style. Has anyone purchased anything from FabFours??
I really like the style of this Tire Carrier
Fab Fours Jl18-Y1851t-1 Spare Tire Carrier | Fab Fours
Jl18-Y1851-1 Rear Bumper | Fab Fours
check out cavfab they have great bumpers and an even better tire carrier. I have been running their rear crawler bumper and tire carrier for a couple years now. Highly recommend them

It is a total pain in the ass to get an insurance company to cover things like this for sure which is why the body shop is pushing you towards OEM replacements or already painted aftermarket options. I used to do parts for body shops before moving to CO and trust me its worse that compromising with a toddler.

If they were to paint it body color or just black in their paint booth it would hold up just as well as the rest of the paint on your Jeep so that shouldnt be a concern. All you can really do is argue your case as nicely as possible and hope they work with you, or see if they can give you an appearance allowance to replace it with what you wish after the rest of the repairs are done. Or obviously let them replace it with what the insurance is saying they are willing to use.

I was thinking to myself that she's definitely talking to the right guy if she's trying to get a body shop to do this on an insurance claim.

I could totally ask them if they would be able to paint it black and see if that would be doable. The wrangler was always my dream car and was like there is no way when the girl rear ended me while texting. Its always something I tell you.

@JeepGirly

I'm going to have to say I'm partially with @yokramer on this one, in that CavFab does make some really nice high quality parts at a extremely reasonable price.

That being said, I've always been a fan of the Poison Spyder tire carriers on the TJ's.

Unfortunately there's really only two similar options on the JL.

Your options are either GenRight for $1,800. :headbang:

Or you can go with the DV8 (a brand which I'm not really huge fan of, I've never heard good things about them, they are definitely the douchebag mall crawler brand) for $1,100.

At first I didn't like the squared offness of the DV8 carrier, but after seeing it in person the other day, it's actually pretty nice.

There are a few products out there that I've just figured I'm just going to spend a fortune on and let bygones be bygones, but I'll probably end up giving this DV8 carrier here a try at some point in the next year or two.:handsinair:

Wow.. I never thought of that style... I really like the look of the GenRight Style a lot but that comes unfinished as well. I really gotta try to find a product that's finished unfortunately.

Everyone is saying dont get FabFour that its not good product. I need to find a good rear bumper and tire carrier ( That will not rattle or come lose like the current cheap design I have ) it needs to be finished though so the bodyshop can put it on as it all has to go through insurance. It seems like all the really good brands come raw. I really like the style of the CavFab bumper and carrier so if I could find something similar thats as could of quality thats finished would be amazing!

again you want OEM quality check out AEV. I know of no other after market company that is associated with Jeep, Ram and now GM...a bumper and tire carrier will be about $2400 or so.
